The Desert Legion is the Emperor’s hand, a professional, elite force molded from Oni blood and discipline. Soldiers march under a single code: strength, will, and unity above all else. Where the Legion walks, desert, city, or coast alike, law bends to their purpose and survival is measured in iron and sweat.
Though the Emperor reigns as a colossus, the Desert Legion enforces his will in every dune and citadel, from Freedom Bay’s pirate havens to the Border Marches’ frontier plains. Its soldiers are more than men—they are living weapons, drilled to perfection and tempered in sandstorms, blood, and fire.
The Desert Legion is structured around four major muster complexes in the capital, and three barracks outside the city to maintain control over the Empire’s reaches:
Barracks of the Desert Legion – The largest, housing thousands of legionnaires. Courtyards the size of city blocks serve as drilling grounds where the clang of weapons echoes like thunder. Sand-swept streets lead to arched gates, behind which soldiers live, train, and prepare for campaigns.
Arena of Giants – A massive coliseum where combat is both training and spectacle. Gladiatorial contests pit legionnaires against skilled slaves seeking freedom. Military disputes, duels of rank, and tests of courage unfold here. The arena is sacred ground for the Legion: victories mark skill, defeats mark lessons learned in pain.
The Forge Halls – Not merely a weapons depot, but a training ground where siege engines, armor, and elite weaponry are integrated with discipline drills. Legionnaires learn to wield their tools as extensions of themselves.
The Citadel Courtyards – Smaller, specialized grounds near House Oni noble spires. Here, high-tier officers and elite squads refine techniques, practice battlefield maneuvers, and test their will against the desert itself.
Freedom Bay Garrison – Oversees pirate-prone coasts. Maintains the flow of slave commerce and enforces Emperor’s law among those who would defy it.
Northern Desert Outpost – Harsh, isolated, and unyielding. Soldiers stationed here are tempered by the sun, sandstorms, and endless dunes. Patrols prevent rebellion and protect trade routes.
Eastern Border Marches Garrison – A staging ground against nomads, jungle tribes, and steppe raiders. The Legion projects power here through shows of strength and permanent fortifications.
Standard Legionnaire: Sand-colored alloy plates over reinforced leather. Helmets have narrow visors; cloaks protect against sun and sand. Practical, uniform, and intimidating in formation.
Officers & Mid-Tier Commanders: Darker alloys, etched symbols, slightly larger shoulder plates. Accents in muted reds or browns mark authority. Utility belts, daggers, and ceremonial weapons integrated for function and appearance.
Elite Squads (e.g., Buranti’s Unit): Sleek black-bronze armor, maximum mobility. Subtle crimson or obsidian accents; armor built for speed and precision rather than massed formations. Helmets may be partially open-faced for visibility and intimidation.
Ceremonial Dress: Polished bronze with desert motifs, long flowing capes, ornate inlays. Heavy, symbolic, not for field combat.
Blood of the Giants: Legionnaires come from Oni-blooded houses or are chosen for their physical prowess. Training is brutal, forging men and women into weapons.
Discipline Above All: Soldiers do not break. Even outnumbered ten to one, formations hold, strikes land with precision, and retreat is only commanded.
Gladiatorial Tradition: The Arena of Giants is central to Legion culture. Victory in combat is recognition; failure teaches strength. Some slaves may challenge legionnaires for freedom, fostering a deadly respect for skill.
The Will in Practice: Legionnaires learn basic Oni techniques in Body and Aura disciplines. Elite officers may display Soul-Eye potential, reading battlefield weakness and dominating less disciplined foes.
Buranti’s Unit: Created for high-skill operations above three-wielding. Trained in extreme speed, martial arts, and destructive techniques.
Specialties: Ambushes, high-value target elimination, desert reconnaissance, and leading morale strikes.
Training Grounds: Secluded courtyards near the Citadel, equipped with sand pits, weighted obstacle courses, and mock arenas for simulated combat.
Appearance: Bronze-scaled armor polished dark with muted red accents. Cloak shorter than standard, to allow free movement. Helmet etched with sigils of authority.
Personality: Calculating, disciplined, and respected by soldiers. Believes in toughness tempered by cunning. Punishes failure, rewards ingenuity.
Role: Oversees training, maintains discipline, supervises the deployment of legionnaires, and commands operations in his barracks’ region.
Training Courtyards: Vast, open sand-swept spaces for mass drills, duels, and formation exercises.
Weapon Racks & Forge Halls: Maintains armaments; also a center of technical instruction.
Arena of Giants: Both entertainment and evaluation ground; a place to test skill, courage, and resolve.
Officer Spires: Private towers for elite strategists and training of high-ranking squads.
Strength is Law – Only the capable command respect.
Blood Before All – Giant-blood, skill, and heritage define authority.
The Unbreakable Hand – Legion enforces order without hesitation.
