Their goal is to expand the land, the opposite of their rivals, Team Aqua, which want to expand the sea. Team Magma is a team of experts in the fields of geology and plate tectonics.Some rebels act as Pokémon thieves. Team Magma specializes in using Fire-type and Ground-type Pokémon. Team Magma's leader is Maxie.
Team Magma often use equipment that is normally used for experiments with high temperatures. They have no vehicles except the Commander's helicopter. Team Magma are bitter rivals of Team Aqua. Though Team Magma does not exist outside the Hoenn region. Team Magma's main purpose is to expand the land mass, believing that by creating more room for life on land that they will be making the world a better place. To that end, they'll try to awaken Groudon from its slumber.
Generally, Team Magma Grunts have weaker Pokémon, with Zubat and Poochyena, and Koffing plentiful among them; however, they also use Pokémon of other types. Typically they are Ground-type and Fire-type Pokémon such as Numel and Baltoy. The team is headed by Maxie and his two immediate subordinates; the Admins Blaise and Courtney.
Team Magma is slightly more vicious than Team Aqua, and has more men working for it.
Maxie uses Mightyena, Flygon, Camerupt, and Aggron as his pokemon team.
Blaise uses Camerupt, Magcargo, and Armaldo as his pokemon team.
Courtney uses Mightyena, Lunatone, and Cradily as her pokemon team.
