Emilia Camp is one of the five Royal Selection factions of the Dragon Kingdom of Lugunica, led by Emilia. Among all the camps, it is the one most strongly associated with compassion, personal growth, found-family bonds, and the struggle to earn legitimacy in a hostile world. It begins at a severe disadvantage: Emilia is a silver-haired half-elf whose appearance resembles the Witch of Envy, so both she and her faction are heavily prejudiced against by nobles and commoners alike. Even so, over time the camp becomes increasingly recognized not as a gathering around a feared lookalike, but as a genuine political force centered on Emilia herself.
The ideological heart of Emilia Camp is kindness with resolve. Emilia originally seeks the throne so she can use the kingdom’s resources to help restore the frozen Elior Forest, and she also states that she desires equality in Lugunica if she becomes ruler. After the Trials in the Sanctuary, she learns the situation is more complicated than simply melting the ice, yet she still resolves to continue her candidacy. This is important to the camp’s identity: unlike factions driven mainly by conquest, pride, profit, or class revolt, Emilia Camp is built on hope, healing, and the belief that a gentler future can still be fought for with real strength.
The camp itself was formed when Roswaal L. Mathers approached Emilia in Elior Forest while she was living there with Puck and informed her that she possessed the qualifications to participate in the Royal Selection. Emilia agreed, partly because the kingdom’s support might help save the frozen forest, and moved to Roswaal Manor. The faction’s founding members were Emilia, Roswaal, Puck, Ram, and Rem. From the beginning, though, the camp was shaped by hidden motives: Roswaal had his own agenda and had already engineered events around Natsuki Subaru, whom he viewed as a priceless asset. Subaru’s arrival ultimately became one of the most important turning points in the camp’s history.
Subaru’s importance to Emilia Camp cannot be overstated. After helping save Emilia during the Loot House incident, he was drawn into the faction, though Rem initially distrusted him because of the Witch’s scent on him. That changed after he saved the villagers of Arlam and the kidnapped children during the Wolgarm incident, earning her trust. Once the Royal Selection formally began, Emilia Camp started in perhaps the weakest political position due to prejudice and Subaru’s own disastrous behavior at the capital. But in time Subaru became one of the camp’s greatest assets, and eventually Emilia’s knight, transforming from a reckless outsider into one of the faction’s central pillars.
A defining feature of Emilia Camp is that it grows through hardship. After Subaru helped secure victory in the Subjugation of the White Whale and the defeat of the Sin Archbishop of Sloth, the camp gained important new members and allies: Otto Suwen, Frederica Baumann, Petra Leyte, and Patrasche all joined its orbit around this period. But the camp also suffered major losses, especially when Rem had her existence eaten by Gluttony and fell into suspended animation. This pattern repeats throughout the faction’s story: painful setbacks are answered not by collapse, but by renewal, recruitment, and deeper emotional commitment between members.
The Sanctuary arc is one of the camp’s most important turning points. Roswaal split the camp between the Sanctuary and Roswaal Manor, engineered simultaneous disasters, and attempted to force Subaru into sacrificing one side to save the other. During this crisis, Emilia regained memories of her past after Puck broke their contract, overcame the Trials, and destroyed the Sanctuary barrier. At the same time, Subaru gained Garfiel Tinzel as an ally, saved Beatrice from the burning mansion by forming a contract with her, and helped defeat the Great Rabbit alongside Emilia. This is where Emilia Camp truly becomes a high-tier faction rather than just a troubled candidate’s household: Emilia matures, Subaru is knighted, Garfiel and Beatrice fully join the group, and the camp’s inner bonds harden into something formidable.
In tone, Emilia Camp feels warm, loyal, idealistic, and scarred. It is arguably the most “family-like” of the Royal Selection factions, but that warmth should never be mistaken for weakness. The camp contains immense combat power, political value, magical talent, and emotional resilience. Emilia brings compassion and moral center. Subaru brings reckless will, strategy under pressure, and impossible persistence. Roswaal brings resources and dangerous intelligence. Beatrice, Garfiel, Ram, Rem, Otto, Frederica, Petra, and the others each add their own strength, creating a faction that feels less like a formal political machine and more like a hard-won household that repeatedly survives the end of the world. This emotional cohesion is one of its greatest strengths, especially in long-form story use. The member list on the current camp page includes Emilia, Subaru, Puck, Roswaal, Ram, Rem, Beatrice, Otto, Frederica, Garfiel, Petra, Ryuzu, Annerose, Clind, Meili, Patrasche, and Frufoo.
The camp’s later history proves how large its role becomes. In Priestella, Emilia Camp helped repel the Witch Cult, with Subaru acting partly as a battlefield coordinator and helping prevent mass unrest under Wrath’s Authority. The camp later set its sights on the Pleiades Watchtower in hopes of reversing the damage caused by Lust and Gluttony. There, Emilia became the tower’s caretaker by forming a contract with Volcanica, and the broader allied effort defeated the three Sin Archbishops of Gluttony. Later still, Emilia Camp forged a temporary alliance with Vollachia, helped end the Great Disaster, and continued taking an active role in major world-shaping conflicts. By this point, the faction is no longer just an underdog camp fighting for recognition; it is one of the most battle-proven and narratively central forces in Re:Zero.
For story use, Emilia Camp works best as a faction of compassionate survivors. They are ideal for plots involving loyalty, healing, prejudice, redemption, found family, magical crises, and desperate battles won through trust rather than status alone. They make excellent protagonists, close allies, or emotionally resonant rivals because they carry both vulnerability and power. Characters dealing with Emilia Camp should expect sincerity, emotional intensity, stubborn hope, and surprising competence under pressure. If Crusch Camp is duty, Anastasia Camp is strategy, Priscilla Camp is regal domination, and Felt Camp is rebellion, then Emilia Camp is the faction that keeps reaching toward a better world no matter how many times it is crushed on the way there.
