Rune-Shrinking

In the tumultuous era following the Great Growing, the first Giants found themselves rulers of a world they could no longer touch. They towered over their former kin, the Lítillfólk, their every gesture a potential catastrophe. It was a time of accidental destruction and deepening isolation, threatening to shatter the bonds of society before this new age could even begin.

From this crisis emerged a Dwarf-Giant rune-smith of unparalleled genius: Mokkur, later called the Bridge-Builder. He perceived that the magic of the Great Growing was not a solid, unchangeable state, but a form of condensed potential. Over decades, he and his apprentices developed the art of Rune-Shrinking—a system of incredibly complex, interlocking runic circuits tattooed across a Giant's body. When activated with a specific ritual, these runes would temporarily "un-weave" the magic of scale, allowing a Giant to compress their form down to the size of a Lítillfólk for one full lunar cycle.

This was Mokkur's Gift. It was not a mere spell, but a profound philosophical tool. For the first time since the Great Growing, Giants and Lítillfólk could look each other in the eye, share a meal at the same table, and work together as true partners. Giants governed with greater wisdom, having walked the streets of their own cities, and trust between the two peoples flourished. Now the art of Rune-Shrinking is shattered, surviving only in fragmented, misunderstood scraps of legend.
