Every few years, someone tells the same story.
They were driving along @Old South Road when they saw a young stranger walking alone beside the road. Sometimes it was raining. Sometimes it was the middle of the night. The descriptions vary slightly, but the stranger is always young, alone and apparently trying to reach Rosewick.
The driver stops. The stranger gets into the car.
They speak little during the journey. Some drivers remember having a short conversation; others describe an uncomfortable silence. But before the car reaches Rosewick, the passenger disappears.
Not jumps out. Not asks the driver to stop.
Disappears.
One moment someone is sitting in the passenger seat or rear of the vehicle. The next, the seat is empty. Doors remain closed, and the driver never remembers seeing them leave.
The story would be easy to dismiss as another Rosewick legend if accounts describing remarkably similar encounters did not appear in old newspapers, journals and personal stories stretching back decades. Some descriptions of the hitchhiker are nearly identical despite having been recorded generations apart.
Those attempting to deliberately find the stranger may spend nights driving @Old South Road without seeing anyone. Encounters appear unpredictable, and there is no guarantee the hitchhiker will appear simply because someone is searching.
