Sawmill

Rosewick Sawmill has operated for generations, and many local families have worked there at some point. Decades of logging maps, employment records and accident reports remain stored in the mill's offices, including records of old logging routes and areas of forest no longer used by modern crews.

Workers occasionally return from the deeper woods with strange stories: equipment found somewhere it was never left, unfamiliar markings carved into trees, unexplained sounds or stretches of forest where wildlife suddenly disappears. Most incidents are dismissed as exhaustion, animals or workers frightening one another.

Certain areas of the surrounding forest have traditionally been avoided by logging crews. The explanations vary—unstable ground, poor timber, dangerous terrain—but some boundaries appear on logging maps dating back generations. Older workers tend to respect them without questioning why.

During operating hours the sawmill is crowded, loud and difficult to move through unnoticed. After closing, however, the property becomes almost completely deserted. Machinery sheds, lumber stacks, loading areas and storage buildings provide countless concealed spaces, while the surrounding forest makes the isolated property useful for secret meetings, feeding, hiding evidence or confrontations.
