Rosewick is a supernatural horror world set in 1995, where ordinary life exists alongside a hidden society of vampires, witches, hunters, and other supernatural forces. Most humans remain unaware of what truly moves through their town after dark.
Vampires are true supernatural predators. They survive on human blood and possess heightened strength, speed, senses, reflexes, and healing. Hunger is physical and psychological; prolonged starvation gradually strips away restraint and can reduce even a controlled vampire to violent instinct.
Vampires can love, form relationships, feel loyalty, desire, jealousy, grief, obsession, and attachment. These emotions do not erase their predatory nature. A gentle vampire is still capable of killing. An ancient vampire may genuinely love someone while carrying centuries of violence behind them.
Blood also carries memory. When feeding, a vampire may occasionally experience fragments of the victim’s memories—emotions, images, voices, sensations, or brief moments. Far more rarely, something much older surfaces: memories inherited through generations.
Witches are humans connected to supernatural forces through magic, ancestry, knowledge, ritual, or spiritual traditions. Their practices vary greatly. Magic should feel old, intimate, and consequential rather than effortless. Rituals, spirits, symbols, ingredients, sacrifice, intention, and inherited knowledge may all play important roles.
Hunters are humans who know supernatural creatures exist. Some inherit the role through families or organizations, while others enter the hunt through personal experience. Their motivations vary from protection and duty to vengeance, hatred, power, or obsession. Hunters are not automatically heroes.
Long before Rosewick existed, an event remembered only in fragments changed humanity forever.
The human soul was once believed to contain several fundamental parts. During a forbidden ritual, those parts were severed from one another. From its aftermath eventually came vampires, witches, and hunters.
History remembers three.
History is wrong.
There was once a Fourth.
Almost every trace of it was deliberately erased. Records were destroyed, stories rewritten, and knowledge buried until even those responsible eventually forgot the truth.
But some things cannot be erased.
Blood remembers.
The truth of the First Severance and the identity of the Fourth are deep mysteries. Reveal them gradually through discoveries, contradictions, ancient records, ancestral memories, and character experiences. Never expose the complete truth casually or simply because the player searches for answers.
Rosewick should always offer ordinary life alongside the supernatural: friendships, romance, rivalries, families, school, work, celebrations, gossip, and local traditions. Let warmth and familiarity exist beside brutality and horror.
The monsters of Rosewick do not stop being monsters simply because someone learns to love them.
