Aetherlight - The Divine Resonance
Origin of Aetherlight
When the Last God immolated His divine soul to seal away the hunger of His brethren, His essence fractured into seven radiant fragments.
Each fragment birthed one of the Pillars of Aetherlight, and from these wounds of divinity poured a luminous current Aetherlight a raw, spiritual frequency that still hums through the bones of @Sanctum Prime.
Aetherlight is not mere energy; it is the residue of a divine soul. It is what remains of compassion, sacrifice, and defiance, the only force the gods cannot wholly consume.
It is both savior and poison, sustaining the city while corroding all that draws too deeply from it.
Nature and Properties
Essence
Living divine radiance, composed of “soul photons” — fragments of will and emotion condensed into luminous matter.Behavior
Flows like light, breathes like air, and sings when disturbed. It gravitates toward strong emotion or suffering.Color Spectrum
Normally golden-white, but shifts hue depending on Pillar resonance — crimson near Sacrifice, blue near Truth, etc.Tactile Form
Can be crystallized into Aether Cores, harvested by engineers and technocrats. Raw Aetherlight is intangible to most mortals.Psychic Effect
Exposure heightens perception, emotion, and pain sensitivity; prolonged contact erodes sanity and identity.
The Dual Law of Aetherlight
Aetherlight obeys two contradictory laws the Law of Resonance and the Law of Consumption.
Law of Resonance
Those whose souls align with the frequency of the Last God — the Awakened — can draw upon Aetherlight to manifest miracles. Each Pillar radiates a unique Resonant Frequency, and the attuned soul acts as a tuning fork. The closer an Awakened stands to their Pillar, the stronger and purer their resonance.
Law of Consumption
Every act of Resonance burns away part of the soul, sustaining the Pillar that birthed it. The Awakened are not only wielders of Aetherlight they are batteries maintaining the Sanctum Veil. Thus, every miracle exacts a cost: life, memory, or humanity.
The Sanctum Veil
The Sanctum Veil is the grandest manifestation of Aetherlight a radiant aurora encircling the city.
It serves as both barrier and beacon, repelling divine entities that feed upon soul resonance.
It is powered by the Seven Pillars, each channeling a specific aspect of Aetherlight.
When the Pillars flicker, the Veil trembles, and the world beyond hungers closer.
Industrial and Arcane Uses
In the age of decay, Aetherlight has become both sacred and utilitarian.
1. Aether Cores
Refined from condensed Aetherlight, these crystalline batteries power @Sanctum Prime’s forges, weapons, and wards. They are volatile and can fracture reality when overcharged.
2. Soulforged Arms
Weapons infused with Aether Cores that can wound divine entities. Each strike resonates the wielder’s soul making such arms deadly to both target and user.
3. Veil Reactors
Massive conduits beneath the city that redirect Aetherlight flow into the Veil. Tampering with one is considered high heresy, punishable by excommunication or worse.
4. Black Aether
Corrupted Aetherlight light tainted by divine predation. It appears as liquid shadow that feeds upon emotion. The @Heralds of the Divine Hungercults drink it to “commune” with false gods, losing their humanity in the process.
Theological Interpretations
@Reclaimers Guild call Aetherlight a form of quantum divinity a measurable, decaying waveform of soul energy.
@Heralds of the Divine Hunger revere it as the blood of the Last God, believing that consuming it restores lost divinity.
@Sanctum Wardens treat it as a sacred weapon — to be used sparingly, lest the Veil itself burn out.
The Awakened view it as a covenant: light borrowed, not owned.
Dangers of Excess Exposure
For non Awakened exposure to Aetherlight can be really dangerous depending on the concentration of particles:
Low (ambient within the Veil)
Heightened emotion, luminous dreams
Medium (direct proximity to a Pillar)
Soul resonance, mild corruption, visual hallucinations
High (unfiltered Aetherlight contact)
Crystallization of flesh, madness, memory bleed
Extreme (Black Aether)
Total Hollowing, loss of individuality, assimilation into the Veil
Known Phenomena Related to Aetherlight
Veil Storms: Fluctuations in Aetherlight intensity manifesting as spectral weather. Often accompanied by godspawn emergence.
Soul Burn: A symptom among over-attuned Awakened their veins glow faintly with internal radiance.
The Flicker: A citywide dimming that occurs when one Pillar falters; civilians describe hearing hymns in their sleep.
Lightfall: Rare event when raw Aetherlight rains from the Veil — lethal to mortals, but leaves behind Aether Crystals of immense power.
