Faction: Rexene Priestdom
Rexene Priestdom
The Rexene Priestdom is based in south eastern Rajana, in the city of Rexene. The people of Rexene are comprised of escaped slaves, redeemed rajarasha and priests of Rexen the Sun God. The city was fully established in 291 CE, during the war between the Rajarasha Talavars and the Naga Kings. Rexen the god of the sun sent down an angel known as Tenebrin to shepherd escaped slaves to a safe haven, bringing them to the mountains in south eastern Rajana, known as the Dendraj Peaks. Priests of Rexen travelled from Latys and Abhir, bringing acolytes and followers with them.
Once the city was established it was named Rexene, after Rexen, and the Rexene Priestdom was created. Tenebrin would initially choose the High Priest, who would rule over Rexene. The first High Priest was a Freedlander named Arbhor Glenvang. He brought a number of Rexen priests and crusaders over to Rajana at the behest of Tenebrin. From there, they created the city of Rexene. Later on in the lifespan of Rexene, the angel Tenebrin would suddenly disappear in 511 CE. Because of this, the High Priest would choose their successor instead of Tenebrin.
In the current era, Rexene is a bastion of faith and steel in the southern hemisphere. It is the centre of Rexen worship in Rajana and Abhir and many followers of Rexen and those who are against slavery flock to the city to help in its crusade against the rajarasha.
The city of Rexene is one of the only safe havens in Rajana, aside from Apoikia. Nestled in the Dendraj Peaks, Rexene’s buildings rise high alongside the mountaintops. The city is protected by limestone walls. Behind the walls are houses for freed slaves. Crusader barracks are dotted around the city, protecting the Rexene citizens. In the centre of the city is the Sun Temple, a large pyramid dedicated to Rexen. The tip of the pyramid is solid gold and is a shining beacon during daylight hours. Another major landmark is the Steel Bastion, a complex of pyramids used by the crusaders of Rexene.
Notable locations in Rexene include:
Sun Temple; The temple of Rexen in the city and residence of the current High Priest, Lacon Stentor. Stentor was a pirate from Lentasect in his youth. He became a follower of Rexen when he was shipwrecked and an angel of Rexen saved him. From then, Stentor gave his life to Rexen and joined the crusaders in Rexene. He proved himself in battle against the rajarasha and worked his way up the ranks, eventually becoming the High Priest.
Sundown Tavern; a prominent tavern in Rexene, famous for its Golden Mead. The tavern is owned by Mamoud Kaftan, an Abhiran. A jolly fellow, he often gives free drinks to returning groups of Rexene paladins.
Steel Bastion; The headquarters of the militant arm of the Rexene Priestdom. A large complex of three pyramids housing many Rexene commanders and paladins. The pyramids provide training grounds, barracks, forges and shrines for the militants. When soldiers of the priesthood are not out fighting or stationed in barracks around the city for patrols, they rest and train here.
Frejen Market; A number of streets in western Rexene lined with stalls of vendors selling food, adventurer gear, potions and herbs. Most vendors set up their stalls in front of their homes, setting up early and selling their wares all day.
