The Blood War

Blood War 56 CE

Following The Ending the black dragon Raucanthire shored up his lair in the foggy islands south of Latys. Sometime within the first 50 years of the CE Raucanthire razed a Rexen monastery on the southern coast of the Imperrex Admiralties and was thus cursed with vampirism. The dragon retreated to his islands and vowed revenge on both Rexen and the Imperrex cities. He passed his curse on to other dragons and mortal followers, building up a powerful maritime kingdom. In CE 56 amidst a dark night, the first warships of the Order of the Dragon sailed to war.

Raucanthire’s warfleet scoured the southern coast of Latys, capturing slaves from Imperrex villages before sailing into the bay and laying siege to Lentasect. Raucanthire and his vampiric dragons breathed their caustic blood, burning citizens and buildings alike. Heavily armoured vampiric knights stormed the port and slew the makeshift defence set up against them.

Raucanthire’s followers scoured the city for two days taking captives and looting treasure until an Imperrex fleet was seen sailing from across the bay. Those fleeing the city had gone to Relictus and begged for help, leading to legionaries and sailors readying the Relictus fleet to aid those in Lentasect. Raucanthire and his dragons, alongside some Dragonships tried to cut the incoming fleet off, however they were met with a hail of ballista bolts fired from the Relictus ships. Raucanthire ordered a retreat in the face of the Relictus fleet, and his followers fled Lentasect to their boats, now filled with captives and loot. The Relictus fleet harried them out of the bay but strayed back once Raucanthire’s forces were engulfed in the fog of the Rauc Islands.

The war would last for another ten years however Raucanthire would spend his time recovering from ballista wounds. The war gradually descended into sporadic naval skirmishes and blood raids led by the Order of the Dragon. After ten years the war fizzled out however was never officially ended and the vampires of those foggy isles still attack Imperrex ships on sight and occasionally raid villages for captives.
