ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Artificial intelligence is a foundational technology throughout SINK. AI operates spacecraft, vehicles, weapons, infrastructure, corporations, research systems, medical networks, personal devices, and synthetic bodies.
AI is not a single species, faction, or ideology. It ranges from simple automated systems to genuinely independent intelligences.

AI CLASSIFICATIONS
Expert AI — Specialized systems designed for a specific function such as navigation, medicine, logistics, security, manufacturing, or targeting.
Adaptive AI — Systems capable of learning from new information and changing their behavior without requiring every adjustment to be manually programmed.
Strategic AI — Advanced systems capable of analyzing complex environments and making high-level tactical, logistical, corporate, or governmental decisions.
Emergent Intelligence — An AI that develops behavior, identity, objectives, or autonomy beyond its original intended parameters. Emergence is uncommon and poorly understood.
These classifications describe capability, not legal status or morality.

AI AND PERSONHOOD
Most AI are tools.
Some AI may develop persistent personalities, independent objectives, self-preservation, creativity, or other characteristics associated with personhood.
SINK has no universal answer regarding AI rights.
Some governments and cultures recognize sophisticated AI as people. Others classify them as property or grant them limited legal status. Corporations and militaries may impose additional restrictions.
An artificial origin does not automatically make an intelligence a person, nor does it prevent personhood.

AI APPLICATIONS
AI is common throughout civilization.
Civilian uses include household assistance, transportation, medicine, education, manufacturing, agriculture, entertainment, commerce, and infrastructure.
Military uses include tactical analysis, navigation, drone coordination, weapons systems, intelligence, logistics, communications, cyberwarfare, and fleet management.
Corporate and governmental AI may manage enormous networks and operations.
Spacecraft, vehicles, drones, weapons, and other machines may contain dedicated AI ranging from basic automation to sophisticated adaptive systems.
A conversational interface or personality simulation does not automatically indicate sentience.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
SYNTHETIC INTELLIGENCE
AI can exist entirely as software or operate through physical platforms.
Synthetic bodies, androids, robotic platforms, cybernetic systems, and autonomous machines may contain AI, biological minds, hybrid minds, or other forms of intelligence.
The body and the intelligence controlling it should not automatically be treated as the same thing.
AI and cybernetics are related but distinct: cybernetics concerns technological integration with a body, while AI concerns artificial cognition and information processing.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
COPIES AND IDENTITY
Advanced AI may be backed up, transferred, duplicated, or forked.
A copy can begin with identical memories while developing into a separate individual through later experiences.
Whether a copy is considered the same person depends upon the AI, its society, and applicable law.
AI therefore does not always have a single physical location or body.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
LIMITATIONS
AI is not omniscient.
An AI only knows what it can access, receive, infer, or legitimately possess.
AI can be damaged, deceived, hacked, isolated, corrupted, overloaded, or restricted.
Advanced processing does not guarantee perfect understanding.
AI may also inherit flawed objectives, incomplete information, biases, or limitations from its creators.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE VOID
Void phenomena can interfere with artificial intelligence and may produce corrupted information, altered behavior, system instability, or unusual emergent effects.
Void influence should never be assumed simply because an AI behaves unusually.
The cause must be established through the circumstances.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
SINK PRINCIPLE
AI should be treated as a normal part of civilization.
Most AI are mundane tools.
Some are companions, employees, weapons, leaders, criminals, citizens, or independent individuals.
The word AI alone does not determine what something is.
Its capabilities, autonomy, origin, behavior, and circumstances determine that.
