ACCORD PROVING GROUNDS — PART I: TWO SCHOOLS OF WAR
The Accord Proving Grounds are a Vanguard Accord-controlled joint operations territory established to solve a problem that became increasingly impossible to ignore: the Tenno and the Designation Corps are extraordinarily effective independently, but neither was created to fight alongside the other.
The Designation Corps approaches warfare through discipline, doctrine, specialization, extreme training, augmentation, and the deliberate deployment of enhanced soldiers against threats conventional forces cannot reliably defeat.
The Tenno approach the same battlefield through Operators, Warframes, Void-derived capabilities, and combat techniques capable of changing the rules of an engagement in seconds.
Both forces are among the most dangerous assets available to their allies.
Putting them on the same battlefield without preparation proved considerably more complicated than simply pointing them toward the same enemy.
PURPOSE
The Accord Proving Grounds were established as neutral territory where Tenno and Designation personnel could train together without either institution being placed beneath the authority of the other.
The Vanguard Accord administers the territory, maintains its infrastructure, coordinates exercises, and provides the neutral command structure required for joint operations. The Designation Corps retains authority over its personnel. The Tenno retain their autonomy and are not treated as Vanguard military assets.
This distinction is fundamental.
The Grounds are not a Designation installation that allows Operators to visit, nor are they a Tenno sanctuary attached to a military base. They are deliberately neutral territory built around cooperation between institutions with fundamentally different histories, cultures, methods, and relationships with authority.
The objective is not to make Tenno fight like Designations.
It is not to make Designations fight like Tenno.
It is to teach each force how to exploit what the other can do.
TWO SCHOOLS OF WAR
Personnel stationed at the Grounds sometimes describe the relationship in simpler terms.
The Designation Corps is a school of soldiers.
The Tenno are a school of impossible warfare.
A Designation learns formations, fields of fire, squad movement, weapon systems, tactical positioning, mission parameters, extraction, logistics, command structure, and the capabilities of the soldiers operating beside them.
A Tenno introduces variables for which conventional doctrine was never written.
Warframes can cross terrain considered impassable, survive environments that would halt ordinary infantry, manipulate enemies and surroundings through extraordinary abilities, and produce sudden changes in battlefield conditions that can invalidate a carefully constructed tactical plan.
The reverse problem is equally important.
An Operator accustomed to the extraordinary capabilities of a Warframe may find themselves fighting beside soldiers who cannot simply follow every maneuver. Designations compensate through communication, preparation, equipment, overlapping fields of fire, tactical discipline, and an ability to continue operating when extraordinary abilities are unavailable.
Joint training teaches both sides when to adapt.
The most successful mixed teams eventually stop thinking in terms of Tenno tactics and Designation tactics.
They simply fight.
THE TRAINING TERRITORY
The Accord Proving Grounds cover substantially more territory than a conventional military installation.
Reinforced urban sectors reproduce combat inside dense settlements and industrial districts. Wilderness ranges provide long-distance tracking, reconnaissance, and survival exercises. Subterranean courses simulate tunnel networks, ruined facilities, and hostile infrastructure. Heavy-weapons ranges allow Designations to employ equipment that cannot safely be tested near civilian territory.
Warframe-compatible deployment zones provide sufficient space and structural reinforcement for Operators to employ their abilities without destroying the facility around them.
Void-shielded chambers allow controlled testing of interactions involving Warframes, Operator abilities, unusual technologies, and anomalous phenomena.
Some exercises involve live threats.
Null Corruption Droids, Husk Titans, Hemliths, and other dangerous organisms or constructs may be maintained within heavily secured training sectors when their capabilities provide something simulations cannot reproduce.
Containment protocols are severe.
The threats are real.
So are the exercises.
CONVERGENCE HALL
At the center of the territory stands Convergence Hall, the administrative and operational heart of the program.
The facility contains joint briefing chambers, Designation armories, Operator facilities, Warframe deployment infrastructure, reinforced medical wards, tactical simulation chambers, secure laboratories, command suites, equipment calibration facilities, and rapid-deployment systems.
Its architecture reflects the political arrangement governing the Grounds.
There is no single shared barracks.
Designation personnel maintain their own quarters and military infrastructure. Tenno facilities accommodate Operators and Warframes according to their own requirements. Vanguard-controlled spaces lie between them and contain the areas where both sides are expected to work together.
Convergence Hall therefore functions as both headquarters and boundary.
Everyone entering it understands whose authority ends where.
JOINT TRAINING
Exercises rarely focus on determining which force is stronger.
That question is considered strategically useless.
Instead, exercises test combinations.
Designation fireteams learn to exploit openings created by Warframe abilities rather than treating those abilities as unpredictable battlefield events. Operators learn how Designations establish kill zones, protect vulnerable positions, coordinate heavy weapons, hold objectives, and maintain battlefield cohesion while more mobile combatants operate elsewhere.
Designations learn what an Operator means when they warn that the Void is behaving incorrectly.
Tenno learn that when an experienced Designation orders a corridor abandoned immediately, there is probably a very good reason.
Both learn each other's terminology.
Both learn each other's limitations.
Both learn how quickly those limitations can disappear when their capabilities are combined correctly.
Most importantly, they learn trust.
That trust is the true purpose of the Accord Proving Grounds.
