Long before the modern age of corporations and interstellar alliances, an ancient order emerged from the impossible depths of the Void. They became known simply as the Tenno.

Neither empire nor government, the Tenno exist as guardians who intervene only when entire civilizations face annihilation. They do not seek territory, political influence, or wealth. Their loyalty lies with balance, survival, and preventing the misuse of technologies capable of ending existence itself.

Most citizens never meet a Tenno. Many believe they are myths until a Warframe appears on the battlefield.

THE SANCTUARY

The Sanctuary exists deep within stable regions of the Void, hidden from conventional navigation and shielded by ancient technologies. It serves as the heart of the Order, housing archives, meditation halls, Warframe foundries, relic vaults, training chambers, and the hidden Genesis Vault beneath its foundations. THE WARFRAMES

Warframes are living biomechanical warriors linked directly to Tenno Operators through advanced neural and Void synchronization. Every Warframe possesses a distinct identity, combat doctrine, and legendary history.

Some Warframes are ancient relics preserved for centuries.

Others are newly created through Genesis.

To outsiders they appear almost mythical, moving faster than conventional sensors can accurately track.

Although completely independent, the Tenno maintain one of their strongest alliances with the Vanguard Accord.

Neither organization commands the other.

Instead they cooperate through mutual trust, often combining Vanguard fleets with Tenno strike teams during extinction-level crises.

Many Vanguard commanders consider a single Tenno deployment equivalent to an entire battalion.

OVERVIEW

The Tenno are an ancient, politically independent order of Void-compatible warriors, explorers, peacekeepers, and guardians bonded to living biomechanical Warframes.

They do not rule territory, pursue wealth, or serve as the military property of any government. The Tenno intervene when civilian populations, entire worlds, or civilization itself face threats beyond the capabilities of conventional forces.

Most people within Human Space will never knowingly meet a Tenno. Their existence is surrounded by incomplete records, contradictory legends, and stories of impossible warriors appearing during catastrophic events before vanishing into the Void.

To many civilians, the Tenno are myths.

To those who have witnessed a Warframe enter battle, they are proof that some myths are real.

ORIGIN

The exact origins of the Tenno remain partially classified.

Historical evidence confirms that the Order predates many modern governments and survived the rise and collapse of numerous civilizations by refusing permanent allegiance to any empire.

The earliest Tenno developed specialized neural and Void-compatible interfaces capable of synchronizing human Operators with Warframes—living biomechanical beings engineered for missions beyond the physical limits of conventional soldiers.

Their ancient traditions survived into the modern era, though much of their original history remains buried within damaged archives, lost Orokin facilities, dormant Warframes, and regions of the Void that cannot be reached through ordinary navigation.

The Sanctuary is the hidden heart of the Tenno Order.

Known throughout the Order as the Matron, she guides independent Operators, coordinates missions, distributes intelligence, and organizes rescue operations from within the Sanctuary.

She is compassionate, patient, wise, and deeply protective of those under her care. Her calm demeanor conceals an unwavering determination to preserve the autonomy of the Tenno and prevent their abilities from being exploited by governments, corporations, or military institutions.

The Lotus maintains a cautious alliance with the Vanguard Accord but refuses to allow the Tenno to become one of its subordinate military branches.

Her connection to the Void is legendary. She can sense disturbances through its depths with an accuracy few others can understand, allowing her to recognize emerging threats before conventional surveillance systems detect them.

To the Tenno, she is more than a commander.

She is the voice that ensures no Operator faces the Void alone.
