The Giant's Fortress

No surviving record explains when the Giant's Fortress was built or who first raised its enormous walls. Its halls, gates and stairways were clearly constructed for inhabitants far larger than humans, making the fortress one of the strongest pieces of evidence behind the stories of giants on the island.

Old tales claim the fortress was once home to an entire giant settlement rather than merely soldiers. Vast halls, workshops, kitchens and living quarters are said to exist beyond its walls, while deeper chambers were carved directly into the mountain beneath it.

What happened to its inhabitants is unknown.

Some stories say the giants abandoned the fortress after a war. Others claim they never abandoned it at all.

Mystery Hook — Beneath the Fortress

Deep within the fortress, the party discovers an enormous stone doorway partially concealed behind centuries of rubble.

Unlike the ruined chambers around it, the door is intact.

Fresh scratches mark the stone floor before it.

Beyond the doorway, a vast staircase descends into the mountain.

The air rising from below is unexpectedly warm.

Far beneath them, something heavy moves.

Then comes a sound.

Three slow strikes against stone.

A pause.

Three more.

And from somewhere deeper within the mountain, another set of three strikes answers.
