Three Graves

The Three Graves have stood beside the forest road for longer than anyone nearby can remember. No names, dates or symbols mark the stones, and no record of the burials has ever been found in the surrounding churches.

Travelers traditionally leave small offerings when passing: a flower, a coin, a piece of bread or simply a stone placed upon one of the graves. Most cannot explain why.

Despite their age and isolation, the graves are never completely overgrown. Someone, it seems, still tends them.

Mystery Hook — The Fourth Grave

After heavy rain, travelers notice freshly disturbed earth beside the three old graves.

A fourth grave has been dug during the night.

It is empty.

At its head stands a newly placed stone, noticeably cleaner than the others. Nothing is carved upon it when the party first arrives.

If they return later, however, letters have begun appearing on its surface.

Slowly, they form the name of someone who recently traveled the road.
