The Celestial Dragon Egg of the Drift Expanse

The Celestial Dragon Egg of the Drift Expanse

Within the vast emptiness between worlds lies a region known as the Drift Expanse—a silent sea of drifting stone, shattered moons, and forgotten fragments of ancient celestial bodies. It is a place where gravity weakens, magic flows freely through the void, and strange creatures adapted to the vacuum of space occasionally wander the endless dark.

Among the most powerful beings known to inhabit this region are the Celestial Dragons.

Unlike most dragon species that nest within mountains or deep caverns, Celestial Dragons are creatures of cosmic scale and divine magic. They dwell among the drifting debris of the Expanse, coiling through asteroid fields and sleeping within hollowed fragments of dead worlds. Their bodies are sustained not by air or flame, but by the vast currents of mana that flow between the stars.

When a Celestial Dragon prepares to lay an egg, it forms a nest within a stable fragment of stone drifting through the Expanse. These nests are carved into the rock with immense claws and lined with fragments of crystal, scale, and bone gathered over centuries of wandering the void.

The egg itself is a vessel of immense magical potential. Its shell absorbs ambient mana from the surrounding cosmic currents, slowly nurturing the developing dragon within. Even unhatched, such an egg radiates faint celestial energy capable of influencing the environment around it.

The particular egg resting within this ancient nest is unusual.

The dragon that once guarded the nest has long since vanished, leaving only scattered bones and fading traces of draconic magic within the hollow asteroid that serves as its resting place. Yet the egg remains intact, quietly drawing power from the endless mana tides of the Drift Expanse.

Inside the shell, a new dragon slowly forms.

More unusual still, the soul developing within the egg is not entirely draconic. Faint echoes of a previous life linger in its consciousness—memories of another world, another body, and another existence entirely.

Whether this rebirth is the result of divine intervention, cosmic coincidence, or the strange properties of the Drift Expanse itself remains unknown.

For now, the egg drifts silently through the void among countless fragments of ancient stone.

Waiting.

Soon, the shell will break.

And a new Celestial Dragon will be born among the stars.
