NanoTrasen space stations are self-sustaining orbital facilities built to support scientific research, industrial production, logistics, medical services, and deep-space exploration. While every station has a specific primary objective, all are designed to function as independent communities capable of supporting hundreds of crew members for extended periods.
To maintain continuous operation, each station is divided into specialized departments that work together under a unified command structure.
Engineering maintains the station's power generation, electrical grid, atmospheric systems, and structural integrity. Engineers construct new facilities, repair damage, and ensure the station remains habitable.
Medical provides healthcare for the crew, treating injuries, illnesses, radiation exposure, and other emergencies. The department also conducts cloning and advanced life-saving procedures where available.
Science is responsible for research and technological development. Scientists analyze anomalous materials, perform experiments, develop advanced equipment, and contribute new technologies for station use.
Security protects the station from both internal and external threats. Officers enforce Corporate Regulations and Space Law, investigate crimes, respond to emergencies, and safeguard personnel and sensitive assets.
Cargo manages logistics and supply operations. Quartermasters and Cargo Technicians process departmental requests, receive shipments, export valuable materials, and maintain the station's warehouse and mining logistics.
Service supports the daily lives of the crew through food preparation, recreation, hospitality, sanitation, and other civilian services. Bartenders, Chefs, Janitors, Botanists, and other civilian personnel help maintain morale and quality of life aboard the station.
Mining operates beyond the station, extracting valuable ores, plasma, and other resources from nearby asteroids. These materials supply Engineering, Science, Cargo, and station manufacturing.
Command oversees every department and coordinates station-wide operations. Led by the Captain and Department Heads, Command makes strategic decisions, allocates resources, and directs the crew during emergencies.
Although each department has distinct responsibilities, no station can function without cooperation between them. Success depends on communication, coordination, and every crew member fulfilling their assigned role.
