Every NanoTrasen station operates under a strict corporate chain of command designed to ensure efficiency, accountability, and rapid response during emergencies. Every crew member is expected to follow lawful orders issued by their direct superior and respect the authority of department leadership.
At the top of the hierarchy is the Captain, who holds ultimate authority over station operations. The Captain is supported by the Head of Personnel, Head of Security, Chief Engineer, Research Director, Chief Medical Officer, and Quartermaster. Together, these department heads oversee their respective divisions and coordinate station-wide operations.
Each department has its own internal hierarchy. Department Heads supervise senior staff, who in turn direct regular employees and trainees. Crew members are expected to report problems through their chain of command rather than bypassing supervisors whenever possible.
Departments work independently but rely heavily on one another. Engineering maintains power and infrastructure, Medical treats the injured, Security enforces Corporate Regulations and Space Law, Science develops new technologies, Cargo manages logistics and supplies, while Civilian personnel provide essential services that support crew morale and daily life.
In emergency situations, the chain of command becomes especially important. Orders issued by the Captain or acting command staff take priority over routine departmental duties. Failure to follow lawful orders, abandonment of duty, or deliberate insubordination may result in disciplinary action under Corporate Regulations or Space Law.
The command hierarchy exists not only to maintain order but to ensure that hundreds of crew members can function as a single coordinated organization, even during catastrophic station emergencies.
