THE JEDI ORDER AT WAR: A FOUNDATION SHAKEN

The Clone Wars fundamentally challenged the Jedi Order's identity and purpose. For a thousand years, the Jedi had served as peacekeepers and diplomats, using the Force for knowledge and defense. Now they found themselves generals commanding armies, making tactical decisions that resulted in massive casualties, and engaging in activities that seemed contrary to their fundamental principles.

The Battle of Geonosis, where nearly two hundred Jedi died, forced the Order to confront the reality that they were no longer invulnerable guardians of peace but military commanders in a galactic war. This transformation from peacekeepers to soldiers created philosophical divisions within the Order, with some Jedi embracing their new role while others questioned whether they had lost their way.

The appointment of Anakin Skywalker as a Jedi Knight, despite his youth and emotional attachments, demonstrated the Order's desperation for capable leaders. His subsequent assignment of Ahsoka Tano as his Padawan created one of the war's most effective partnerships but also reinforced concerns about the Order's changing standards and practices.
