Centurion-class Cruiser

“The Spear of the Storm Sovereign.”

The Centurion-class Cruiser is the spearhead of the Arkanis Imperium’s Stellar Navy, a warship designed for swift strikes and devastating power. Sleek, fast, and heavily armed, the Centurion is the Imperium’s answer to capital ship engagements, excelling in its role as a hunter and slayer of enemy warships.

Design and Doctrine

Where the Vigilance-class Carrier provides the fleet’s foundation and the Starjack-class Battleship brings overwhelming firepower, the Centurion embodies precision and speed. Designed to pursue and cripple capital ships, it forms the cutting edge of most Imperial fleets.

Its streamlined hull, reinforced with darksteel alloy plating, allows for both durability and maneuverability, while its oversized engines grant it remarkable velocity in both standard space and hyperspace. Centurions are often deployed in packs of two or three, striking from the flanks to break enemy lines while heavier Imperial vessels press forward.

Crew and Complement

The Centurion-class requires a relatively small crew of 300 officers and personnel, making it efficient and cost-effective compared to larger Imperial warships. Despite its modest size, it carries a small hangar bay capable of housing either:

  • 1 Gunship, or

  • 6 Starfighters/Bombers, providing limited support for its operations.

This flexibility ensures the Centurion can handle reconnaissance, escort, or surgical strike missions with ease.

Armament

The Centurion is a versatile weapons platform, equipped with:

  • 1x Capital-Class Hardpoint – typically fitted with a heavy plasma cannon, railgun, or missile array, designed for crippling or destroying enemy capital ships.

  • 6x Medium Hardpoints – adaptable for missile launchers, energy weapons, slug throwers, or rail blasters depending on mission requirements.

This arsenal makes the Centurion a deadly threat in fleet battles, often focusing fire on enemy flagships or vulnerable carriers.

Deck Structure

The cruiser is divided into three primary decks:

  1. Command Deck – housing the bridge, tactical operations, and gunnery control.

  2. Living & Cargo Deck – barracks, mess, medbay, and small cargo holds for resupply or troop transport.

  3. Engineering Deck – home to the powerful reactor core, hyperdrive system, and oversized engine arrays that give the Centurion its blistering speed.

Role in the Fleet

The Centurion’s role is to act as the fleet’s spearhead, punching through enemy lines and engaging capital ships directly. While it lacks the staying power of a Starjack-class Battleship, its speed and adaptability make it indispensable in both offensive strikes and defensive maneuvers.

Imperial doctrine often places Centurions at the tip of the charge, where their speed and firepower can sow chaos before heavier warships arrive to deliver the killing blow.

Reputation

Among the Imperium’s enemies, the Centurion is infamous for its ability to appear suddenly in battle, tear through larger vessels with precision fire, and vanish into hyperspace before reinforcements arrive. Its silhouette, with its forward-angled prow and glowing engine banks, is a symbol of fear and inevitability.

Within the Imperium, the Centurion is hailed as the Storm Sovereign’s Spear, a ship built not for defense but for unyielding conquest.
