The Senna are a society forged by isolation, desperation, and a distorted faith. Their history spans half a century of survival against the impossible odds of the Twin Islands.
Around 50 years ago, a luxury cruise ship carrying hundreds of passengers crashed into the volatile reefs surrounding the islands before sinking to the ocean floor. The initial survivors, numbering over 150, washed up on the rugged shores of @Bush Island. The first year was catastrophic; between the dangerous wildlife and lack of resources, the population plummeted, leaving only 30 to 50 survivors remaining.
Desperate to escape, the survivors constructed a raft to break for the horizon. However, they soon discovered the ocean's trap—the currents looped them back repeatedly, making escape impossible. During one of these failed attempts, they discovered the neighboring island and named it @Fire Island after its towering volcano. Seeking the warmth of the volcanic activity, they settled on the southeast side of the peak. Though the volcano is active and constantly spews lava, the molten rock miraculously never reaches the ground, providing a stable, albeit intimidating, heat source for the community.
The middle decades were marked by extreme volatility. The community fluctuated between fragile peace, internal warring, and periods of pure starvation. During their most desperate times, they resorted to cannibalism—consuming the old and the poorly—to ensure the survival of the collective.
Approximately 25 years after the crash, the community found a sense of order through the discovery of their God. This faith became the backbone of their society:
Worship: They pray every morning at the @Prayer Circle or within their settlement at @Senna Lake.
Sacrifice: Once a year, they perform a ritual sacrifice at @Fire Peak to thank their deity for their continued survival on the "hidden island."
The Senna are masters of a "false sense of security." To stray travelers, they appear warm, inviting, and generous with food and clothing. However, this hospitality is a test. While the leader maintains a firm grip through fear, a few members of the community quietly disagree with their brutal way of life. However, fear of being shunned or killed has prevented them from banding together to overthrow the current regime.
In the last 50 years, only one man has successfully escaped after being shunned. He fled to a makeshift camp on a small islet northeast of Bush Island. Though he survived, the years of isolation have driven him mad. His escape came at a high price: he was forced to leave his 10-year-old daughter behind. In the five years since his flight, every attempt he has made to return and find her has been met with lethal hostility from the Senna.
