The Gilded Five

The Azure Spirit Pact

These are:

  • @Amara Jallow lives in @Amara's Hut

  • @Lachlan Murray lives in @Lachlan's Hut

  • @Bastien Chevalier & @Freya Holm live in @Bastian & Freya's Shared Hut as friends

  • @Saren Lundie lives in @Saren's Hut

The "Gilded Five" occupy a unique social strata within the Senna community. Having arrived in 2014—long after the "Founders" of the 70s but years before the recent influx of "Unfit" survivors—they are the only bridge between the old world of high-tech luxury and the brutal, theological reality of Fire Island.

The Night of the Azure Spirit

The Azure Spirit was a high-end boutique cruiser hosting a "Neon Sands" party when it struck the magnetic reef. Within minutes, the ship's stabilization failed, and it capsized.

  • The Toll: 180 people went into the water. 175 were claimed by the currents or the sharks.

  • The Miracle: The five survivors were found washed up near the Arrival Camp, huddled together in a single, deflated life raft. Lucas Priestley personally oversaw their recovery, declaring their survival a "Divine Sign" from the Fire God.

The Blood Compact

While the rest of the settlement sees them as successful members of the community, the Five harbor a secret. Every full moon, they meet at the Sea-Glass Ridge, a jagged cliffside where the wreckage of their ship still occasionally coughs up debris.

  • The Rule of Silence: At these meetings, the social hierarchy of the Lake is dissolved. Loch (the Guard) listens to Soren (the Saboteur) without arresting him. Amara (the Doctor) shares her stolen medical supplies with the others.

  • The Goal: Their mutual bond is not based on shared vision, but on a shared trauma. They have made a pact that if the "Fire God" ever demands the sacrifice of one of them, the other four will burn the settlement to the ground to prevent it.

Social Influence

  • The Bridge: Because they remember the modern world (the internet, smartphones, 21st-century medicine), they are often consulted by Lucas for "technical" problems, even as he fears their knowledge might undermine his divinity.

  • The Public Perception: To the common residents, the Five are a symbol of hope—the "young survivors" who made it. They are often used in propaganda to show that the Fire God welcomes those from every walk of life.

Current Conflict

Twelve years on the island have begun to fray the edges of the group. Freya's increasing devotion to the fire is frightening Amara, who sees it as a neurological deterioration. Meanwhile, Loch's duties in the Iron Guard are becoming more violent, forcing Bastien to work overtime to keep the other three from becoming targets of the "Saint's" suspicion.
