The Day of Abdication and the Chroma Conclave Attack

The history of this era begins with a single, dramatic day that fundamentally changed the political landscape and physical state of Tal'Dorei.

  • Uriel's Abdication (26th of Duscar, 812 PD): Sovereign Uriel Tal'Dorei II, the last monarch of the Tal'Dorei dynasty, officially abdicated the throne. He transferred all governing power from the royal line to the Tal'Dorei Council, dissolving the old empire and establishing the Republic of Tal'Dorei. This was a peaceful, planned transition intended to usher in an era of more balanced and accountable governance.

  • The Attack on Emon: Before Uriel's final declaration could be completed, the capital city of Emon was attacked by the Chroma Conclave, an alliance of four ancient chromatic dragons:

    • Thordak the Cinder King (Red)

    • Umbrasyl the Hope Devourer (Black)

    • Vorugal the Frigid Doom (White)

    • Raishan the Diseased Deceiver (Green)

  • Devastation and Loss: The surprise attack was catastrophic. Sovereign Uriel II was among the first casualties, killed on the steps of the palace he was vacating. Emon was largely destroyed, with Thordak the Cinder King claiming the ruined city as his lair. The other dragons scattered to conquer key regions across the continent, beginning the roughly one-year-long Age of Betrayal.

🐲 The Age of Betrayal and the Conclave's Reign

For the next year, Tal'Dorei was under the iron fist of the Chroma Conclave:

  • Division of Power: Each dragon claimed a territory, effectively dividing the Republic.

    • Emon became Thordak's lair.

    • Westruun was conquered by Umbrasyl.

    • Draconia fell to Vorugal.

    • Whitestone was infiltrated, but not conquered by Raishan.

  • The Tal'Dorei Council in Exile: The remaining members of the Council and the surviving royal family fled, often to allied city-states like Kraghammer (Dwarven city-state) and Syngorn (Elven city-state), who offered shelter and resistance.

  • Vox Machina's Campaign: The legendary heroes of the time, the adventuring party known as Vox Machina, began their desperate campaign against the Conclave. This involved a global search for powerful artifacts, the Vestiges of Divergence, to stand a chance against the ancient dragons.

  • The Conclave's Defeat: Through immense effort, sacrifice, and the help of allies across the world, Vox Machina managed to hunt down and slay all four dragons of the Chroma Conclave, ending the Age of Betrayal and freeing the continent from their tyranny.
