consist of industrial settlements focused on mining and material processing. Life there is harsh, isolated, and closely tied to production quotas.
Beyond these major centers lie thousands of smaller habitats. Some are prosperous independent stations. Others are corporate facilities, family-operated mining claims, scientific outposts, hidden smuggling ports, or deteriorating colonies only one failed shipment away from disaster.
Visitors from Terra and Mars are common in major Belt settlements, but most arrive for work, trade, contracts, transport, government business, family, or other practical reasons. Leisure tourism exists, especially on Ceres and Pallas, but remains uncommon. Travel time, cost, physical discomfort, and the reputation of the Belt discourage casual visitors. Someone traveling to the Belt purely out of curiosity or fascination is noticeable, though not unheard of.
