Classes 01: Overview

Classes

Classes are game abstractions used to represent a character’s skills, experience, and capabilities. They do not necessarily correspond to formal professions or recognized categories within the world. Characters generally do not describe themselves or others by class or level. A Soldier may be a professional infantryman, security contractor, militia member, or simply someone with extensive combat experience. An Agent may be an investigator, infiltrator, intelligence operative, criminal, or someone whose abilities developed through experience rather than formal training.

The same applies to Medics, Pilots, and Commoners. Their class features represent practical expertise and experience, not universally standardized training programs. A character’s profession, organization, education, and social role should be determined by their individual background rather than inferred solely from their class or level.

Levels are entirely mechanical abstractions. People in the setting do not perceive or discuss others as “Level 3 Soldiers,” “Level 2 Agents,” or similar categories. Increasing level represents growing experience, competence, resilience, and access to more advanced abilities rather than a recognized promotion system.
