Resonant is primarily a game-mechanical classification, not a publicly recognized profession or established scientific category. Most inhabitants of the Solar System do not know that Resonants exist, and newly affected individuals may have no idea what is happening to them. Knowledge of Resonants is restricted to a small number of informed individuals and classified programs. Even those aware of their existence may not fully understand the nature or origin of their abilities.
Resonant abilities often first appear involuntarily or under circumstances that make them difficult to understand. A newly affected person does not automatically know the names, rules, limits, or full range of their abilities. Early manifestations may be mistaken for neurological symptoms, equipment failures, coincidence, stress, unusual environmental effects, or other plausible explanations.
With experience, a Resonant may gradually recognize recurring patterns and learn to deliberately reproduce or control some effects. Mechanical spell names, spell levels, spell slots, cantrips, class features, and similar terminology are not automatically concepts the character knows or uses in-world.
