@Belter culture is built around survival, adaptation, memory, and resistance.
Music often incorporates mechanical rhythms, ventilation pulses, docking alarms, and songs designed to be sung during repetitive labor. Murals, tattoos, suit markings, and ship emblems preserve family histories and commemorate lost crews.
Funerary customs vary between settlements. Some communities release the dead into space. Others recycle the body’s water and organic material, viewing its return to the station as a final contribution to the living. Neither practice is treated casually.
Personal identity is often connected to birthplace, station, crew, and profession. A Belter may introduce themselves through affiliations that outsiders do not understand but that reveal an entire history to another Belter.
Planetary skies can be unsettling to those raised inside habitats. Open horizons, uncontrolled weather, and the absence of a visible ceiling may produce anxiety rather than wonder.
Belters do not generally consider themselves deprived versions of planetary humans. They see themselves as people adapted to the environment where humanity’s future will be decided.
