The @United Terran Authority (UTA) emerged from a succession of environmental disasters, resource conflicts, mass migrations, and economic collapses that overwhelmed the governments of old Earth.
Initially established as an international emergency administration, it coordinated food distribution, climate engineering, refugee relocation, and the reconstruction of critical infrastructure. As individual nations became unable to manage the crisis, more authority was transferred to centralized institutions.
Temporary powers became permanent. National militaries were consolidated, borders were reorganized into administrative regions, and major corporations were placed under varying degrees of state supervision. The old nation-states still survive as cultural and geographic identities, but most possess little meaningful sovereignty.
The UTA argues that unification saved @Terra from extinction. Few historians dispute that claim. The controversy lies in whether the emergency ever truly ended.
