Inanis 05: Competing Powers & Theories

Inanis Research by UTA, MCR and Free Belt Coalition

Officially, Inanis, Resonants or extraterrestrials do not exist.

Only compartmentalized groups within the major powers know of Inanis; their activities, findings, and competing ambitions are concealed from ordinary citizens and most government personnel.

UTA Research and Secrecy

Officially, Inanis, Resonants or extraterrestrials do not exist.

The United Terran Authority considers Inanis a matter of planetary security. Its intelligence services suppress public evidence, seize artifacts, and maintain classified research facilities throughout Terra and the outer system.

MCR Research and Strategy

Officially, Inanis, Resonants or extraterrestrials do not exist.

The Martian Congressional Republic treats Inanis phenomena as both a strategic threat and a potential opportunity. Martian research programs investigate whether any observed properties can be understood, controlled, or eventually adapted to human technology. Such ambitions should not be mistaken for established capability.

Neither power possesses reliable Inanis-derived technology or a complete scientific theory explaining the phenomena. Research programs can catalogue observations, compare incidents, construct experimental equipment, reproduce limited conditions, and sometimes identify recurring correlations. Results are frequently inconsistent, irreproducible, or dependent on conditions researchers do not understand.

Devices developed by classified programs may therefore search for known secondary effects or reproduce particular experimental procedures, but their existence does not imply that humanity understands the phenomenon behind them.

Belt Discoveries and Recovery

Officially, Inanis, Resonants or extraterrestrials do not exist.

The Free Belt Coalition possesses fewer formal laboratories but has greater access to remote regions where Inanis artifacts are often discovered. Belter prospectors, salvagers, and independent scientists regularly encounter phenomena before Terra or Mars can intervene. Some sell their discoveries. Others hide or destroy them.

None of the three powers fully trusts the others. Information is hoarded, operations are concealed, and Inanis incidents are sometimes blamed on rival factions. This secrecy prevents humanity from forming a complete picture of what is happening.

It may also be exactly what Inanis wants.

Inanis Theories – Hypotheses and Unknown Purpose

Officially, Inanis, Resonants or extraterrestrials do not exist.

Within classified programs, a small number of informed researchers have proposed several explanations for Inanis. These hypotheses are neither public knowledge nor established facts:

  • It is an ancient civilization observing humanity from a distance.

  • It is an automated network whose creators disappeared long ago.

  • It is a weapon designed to corrupt technology and intelligent life.

  • It is a communication system operating through dimensions humanity cannot perceive.

  • It is a containment mechanism built to imprison something else.

  • It is not arriving in the solar system, but awakening within it.

  • Its structures are fragments of a single distributed intelligence.

  • Resonants are unintended side effects of exposure.

  • Resonants are the intended result of contact.

No theory explains every recorded phenomenon. Evidence supporting one interpretation often contradicts another.
