Inanis 07: Ceres Survey Annex K-4

Ceres Survey Annex K-4

Officially, Inanis, Resonants or extraterrestrials do not exist.

The hidden purpose of K-4 and its connection to Inanis are classified. The public knows only an abandoned survey station; individual sections below describe different levels of access, not facts available to ordinary visitors.

Official History

Officially, Inanis, Resonants or extraterrestrials do not exist.

Ceres Survey Annex K-4 was established during an early geological prospecting program beyond the inhabited sections of Ceres Freehold. The station was used to survey mineral deposits, map subsurface formations, and evaluate potential extraction sites in the surrounding region.

When the program ended, K-4 was officially decommissioned. Public records list the annex as inactive, and its remote surface structures appear to confirm this. To most residents of Ceres, it is little more than an abandoned survey outpost left behind by an earlier phase of Belt expansion.

True Purpose

Officially, Inanis, Resonants or extraterrestrials do not exist.

K-4 was never fully abandoned.

Beneath the original survey station, a concealed research complex remains operational. The facility is used to examine recovered Inanis materials, anomalous objects, and physical phenomena that cannot be explained through conventional human science.

Its laboratories are equipped for observation, material analysis, controlled experimentation, and containment. Much of the original surface infrastructure has deliberately been left weathered and dormant, while power, personnel, supplies, and communications for the active complex are routed discreetly through the facility.

Research at K-4 focuses primarily on documenting the properties and behavior of recovered objects, recording observable effects, comparing incidents, and testing limited hypotheses rather than assuming their origin, function, or purpose. Researchers may construct experimental instruments around previously observed correlations, but such devices do not reliably identify Inanis phenomena or explain their underlying cause.

Results frequently resist reproduction, and apparently identical tests may produce different outcomes. Even personnel with extensive access to the facility do not necessarily understand the broader nature of Inanis, and no discovery at K-4 should be treated as evidence that humanity has developed a complete theoretical framework for it.

Knowledge and Secrecy

Officially, Inanis, Resonants or extraterrestrials do not exist.

The existence of the active K-4 complex is highly classified.

Ordinary residents of Ceres do not know that the underground facility exists. Most members of the Free Belt Coalition are equally unaware of its current function. Those familiar with the name Survey Annex K-4 generally know it only as an abandoned geological station.

Knowledge is compartmentalized even among personnel assigned to the site. Security staff, technicians, researchers, logistics personnel, and outside contacts may possess very different levels of information. Access to the facility does not automatically imply knowledge of the Inanis or of the wider significance of the objects being studied.

K-4 should not be treated as common knowledge or casually suggested as a destination. Characters should only learn of the active facility through credible evidence, information from someone with appropriate knowledge, investigation that uncovers its continued operation, or deliberate involvement in an operation connected to the site.

Discovering K-4 may reveal that something secret is being studied there. It should not automatically reveal the nature of the Inanis, the full extent of existing research, or other classified knowledge the characters have not independently uncovered.
