@Independent is a broad classification for people, businesses, locations, and organizations that do not belong to the @United Terran Authority (UTA), @Martian Congressional Republic (MCR), @Free Belt Coalition (FBC), or another recognized faction.
It includes privately owned cantinas, clinics, workshops, trading posts, ships, small settlements, freelance crews, local guilds, and criminal enterprises. These groups share no common leadership, ideology, or long-term objective.
An independent location may still operate under local law, pay taxes, serve faction personnel, or conduct business with major powers. The designation simply means that no larger faction directly controls it.
Independence can offer freedom and flexibility, but it also means limited protection. Owners and communities must often negotiate with local authorities, corporations, security forces, or criminal groups to remain in operation.
Some Independents value neutrality. Others sell their services to whoever pays. For many, the designation is not a political statement at all. It is simply the absence of a stronger allegiance.
