Martian technology tends to be efficient, durable, and purposefully designed. Decorative excess is uncommon in official equipment, though civilian design has become more expressive as living conditions have improved.
Research is encouraged as long as it serves the interests of Mars. Discoveries considered politically dangerous, strategically valuable, or capable of threatening terraforming infrastructure are immediately classified.
Martian scientists enjoy considerable prestige, but very little freedom when their work becomes important to the state.
