The @United Terran Authority (UTA) considers @The Belt essential to the survival of @Terra. @Belter settlements provide metals, volatiles, fuel, industrial materials, and access to distant trade routes.
Official Terran policy describes the Belt as a network of self-governing communities protected by shared law and commerce. Many Belters instead see a system designed to extract their resources while keeping them economically dependent.
Terran corporations own or finance numerous mines, stations, refineries, and transport vessels. Contracts are enforced through debt, licensing requirements, shipping restrictions, and security agreements. The UTA argues that these measures prevent piracy and maintain a stable economy. The @Free Belt Coalition (FBC) that they are colonial control under another name.
Not every @Terran Human supports the exploitation of the Belt, and not every Belter opposes the UTA. Trade, family connections, shared workplaces, and mutual dependence blur the political boundaries. Nevertheless, generations of unequal treatment have created resentment that cannot be resolved through official statements alone.
