Baldur's Gate origin
Balduran: A sea captain of unparalleled ambition, Balduran sailed far to the west across the Trackless Sea. He returned with immense wealth, fantastical stories of a distant land (which many believe to be Anchorome, the Faerûnian equivalent of the Americas), and, some say, a thirst for something more.
The Name: After Balduran's death (under mysterious circumstances; some say he returned to his discovered land and was never seen again), the grateful citizens renamed their thriving city "Baldur's Gate" in his honor.
