The Guilds: Control of trade is power in Baldur's Gate. Powerful guilds like the Merchant's League, the Ironmongers' Guild, and the Cobblers' and Tanners' Guild wield immense influence, often rivaling that of the patriars. Their conflicts can shut down entire districts.

The Flaming Fist: The city's mercenary army and police force. Founded by the Duke Eltan, they are a private company hired to protect the city. They are recognizable by their distinctive lion-crested armor. While crucial for defense, they are also known for their brutality and corruption.
