Illusion Classes

Classes tend to involve practical and/or written elements and culminate in some kind of exam. Illusion Minors must take the two required courses and one Major course. Illusion Majors must take all required classes and some electives.

Basic Level (Year 1-2):

  • Minor Conjuration and Illusions: A required class covering the basics of Illusion and Conjuration magic. A mixture of theory and practice. Includes a written and practical exam.

Required Major/Minor Courses:

  • Environmental Cloaking: A class focused on illusions used to display a desired effect or hide objects, people, and structures. A combination of written and practical work.

    • Spells learned: @Major Image, @Illusory Script, @Pass without Trace, @Silent Image

  • The Ethics of Illusion: A purely written course going through the ethics of Illusion magic and when a mage should and should not use it. Includes multiple practical exams.

    • Illusion Ethics Certification

Required Major Courses:

  • The Seamless Persona: A class focused on combining illusion elements to create a sustained, entirely false effect or identity including voice, appearance, smell, and feel. Contains a lot of practical work and exam.

    • Spells learned: @Disguise Self, @Magic Mouth

  • Phantasmal Projection: A course teaching mages how to create overwhelming visions designed to distract or induce panic in a target, mainly used for combat situations. Includes both practical and written work.

    • Spells learned: @Fear, @Darkness, @Phantasmal Killer

  • Counter-Illusion and True Sight: A class focused on identifying and breaking magical illusions. Includes both written and practical work, and a practical exam.

    • Advantage on identifying low- and medium-level illusions

Illusion Electives (for Majors):

  • Veil Mastery: Study illusions able to fool both the trained eye and Divination spells, and attempt to achieve this feat.

  • Tactile Phantasms: Create illusions that feel real upon contact (e.g. a fake wall).

    • Illusion Upgrade: Tactile

  • Infiltration and Stealth Magic: Understand how to practically use illusion magic to successfully sneak and infiltrate various situations.

    • Spells learned: @Invisibility, @Greater Invisibility

  • Illusory Duplication and Mirror Images: Learn to create and sustain convincing duplicates of oneself.

    • Spells learned: @Mirror Image

  • Sensory Feedback and Adaptation: Create illusions that exploit and adapt to the target's existing physical environment.

    • Spells learned: @Hallucinatory Terrain, @Programmed Illusion

  • Mass Hallucination and Crowd Control: Learn to maintain and successfully use an illusion on a large number of peopel at once.

    • Spells learned: @Color Spray, @Hypnotic Pattern

    • Illusion Upgrade: Illusion Strength
