Professors

Rank: Professors have a rank of Master, Advanced, or Junior. Junior professors tend to teach Year 1-2 (Basic and Minor required) classes and help more senior professors. Advanced professors tend to teach Year 3-4 classes (Minor/Major and certain electives). Master professors tend to teach Year 4-5 classes (Major and electives).

Professors of all ranks can lead research projects, though it is usual Master or Advanced Professors that do this.

Evocation Professors:

  • Master Professor Darius Kael: A gruff, scarred veteran mage who insists on field practice and motivates students by throwing them into the deep end of elemental conflict.

  • Advanced Magistra Lyra Varr: Passionate and theatrical, she studies how pure magical force affects non-magical technology, motivated by proving arcane power is superior to mortal machines.

  • Junior Instructor Corvin Tane: Overly academic and nervous, he focuses solely on textbook theories, terrified of practical application since a minor spell backfired on him during his Crucible Year.

Abjuration Professors:

  • Master Archon Elara Vane: Calm and supremely disciplined, she believes true strength lies in preventing injury, constantly seeking to develop wards that protect against large-scale attacks.

  • Advanced Magister Roric Hale: A pragmatic military medic, his motivation is strictly humanitarian, focusing on efficient, large-scale healing and magical purification of disease.

  • Junior Instructor Sila Moss: Highly empathetic and often overwhelmed, she tries to balance teaching simple protective runes with the emotional drain of practicing full-scale restoration magic.

Transmutation Professors:

  • Professor Dr. Alistair Bellwether: Eccentric and obsessed with ancient alchemical texts, he is driven to perfect the art of turning common objects into useful magical resources.

  • Magistra Tova Stonehand: A meticulous craftsman, she specializes in organic transmutation (e.g., bone, wood, living tissue), motivated by the pursuit of biological perfection.

  • Junior Instructor Kellen Finch: Easily distracted by shiny experiments, he focuses on minor alterations and transformations, often getting his classes into trouble with exploding beakers.

Illusion Professors:

  • Master Archon Seraphina Faux: Witty and highly secretive, she motivates students by challenging them to never believe what they see, specializing in illusions undetectable by magical analysis.

  • Advanced Magister Vexel Shade: Cynical and politically motivated, he teaches advanced techniques for political camouflage and subtle mental manipulation, viewing magic as a tool for social engineering, and carefully bordering ethical lines when teaching.

  • Junior Instructor Anya Kross: A former spy who is now trying to reform, she struggles with the ethics of illusion but is motivated to teach defense against being fooled by illusion.

Divination Professors:

  • Master Professor Grandmother Maeve: An elderly, cryptic seer who rarely speaks plainly, she is motivated by an urgent need to interpret complex, shifting Ley Line patterns before the next disaster.

  • Advanced Magister Ronan Scribe: A meticulous archivist and researcher, he focuses on cataloging all known prophecies and historical scrying reports, motivated by a desire to bring perfect order to arcane knowledge.

  • Junior Instructor Hollis Quay: Enthusiastic but prone to over-analyzing small signs, he teaches elementary scrying and focuses on practical, immediate information gathering rather than grand prophecy.

Conjuration Professors:

  • Master Archon Dr. Silas Rift: A pioneering academic who treats other planes like scientific journals, motivated by pure curiosity to catalog every creature and dimension accessible via portals.

  • Advanced Magistra Zora Tel: Stern and hyper-cautious, she enforces rigorous conjuration circles and teleportation trials, driven by the knowledge that one small error can cause a catastrophe.

  • Instructor Fenris Rook: A former Ley Line Runner, he is a thrill-seeker motivated by travel, specializing in creating temporary, rapid-deployment portals for logistical purposes.

Enchantment Professors:

  • Master Professor Gilda Ironheart: A legendary Artificer whose hands are permanently stained with dye and metal, she believes permanent magic is the highest form of the art, focusing on long-term structural wards.

  • Advanced Magister Orion Rusk: Focused on efficiency and mass production, he teaches the most cost-effective methods of imbuing objects, along with the basics of enchanted goods and functionality of Enchantment.
