Year 2 Adventures
This is just a short list of potential adventures or mini-quests the player might encounter. Some or none of these could happen- this is just a list of interesting suggestions and ideas.
Fall (August - October)
Focus: Broad Application, Rules, Faction Awareness.
The Overloaded Training Array: During a monitored session in the Shield Training Atrium, the defensive array begins to short-circuit dangerously. The group must identify whether the failure is due to a flaw in its permanent Enchantment or an overload from chaotic Evocation energy, and quickly apply the correct principle to stabilize the situation.
The Misplaced Research Seal: A professor is missing a highly sensitive, magically sealed document from their office. The group is secretly tasked with using an Illusion spell to distract a security guard and then employing Divination to read the residual magic on the office door to narrow down who entered last.
The Ley Line Anomaly: The group is on a routine assignment near the Ley Line Nexus Chamber and encounters a subtle anomaly: a small area where matter is spontaneously altering (mini-Transmutation bursts) due to chaotic energy. They must use Abjuration to set up a containment perimeter and stop the alterations from spreading.
The Shadowy Deal Witness: The group, relaxing at the Student Tavern, overhears a cryptic conversation involving a Year 5 student and a strange figure (a Free Artisan agent). They must use subtle Illusion or Divination techniques to gather information on the illegal transaction without being noticed or getting involved.
The Forbidden Artifact Hunt: A professor challenges the group to locate a non-magical, seemingly insignificant trinket hidden somewhere in the chaos of the Transmutation Lab. The trinket is subtly warded with a basic Conjuration spell that shifts its location every few minutes, requiring rapid tracking and spatial awareness.
Winter (November - January)
Focus: Ethical Choices, Complex Magic, Midterms.
Midterm Practical: The Warded Chest Challenge: The Midterm requires the group to open a magically locked chest. The chest is simultaneously protected by an Abjuration ward (that nullifies direct force) and a low-level Illusion that makes the locking mechanism appear to shift. They must solve the lock using a sequence of non-combat spells.
The Toxic Brew: While studying in the Grand Conservatory, the group discovers an abandoned beaker containing a highly toxic Transmutation failure that is releasing noxious fumes. They must use a combination of Conjuration (to create a void for disposal) and Abjuration (to shield themselves) to safely neutralize the substance.
The Fading Memory: A younger student is suffering from severe anxiety after an unsettling event. The group suspects a minor, unethical use of Illusion to cause mental distress. They must use subtle Abjuration or Divination magic to gently stabilize the student's mind without revealing the use of magic to the student body.
Winter Holiday: The Portal Prank: A massive snowball fight is planned for the Training Duelling Circle, but a rogue student has opened small, temporary Conjuration portals to an Arctic plane, causing localized freezing and unpredictable icy hazards. The group must use targeted Evocation to close the portals before the fun turns dangerous.
The Unstable Enchantment: The Headmaster assigns the group to a maintenance check on the Obsidian Gate. A crucial Enchantment rune that handles gate security is flickering, causing minor, unpredictable Transmutation of the gate's metal. They must use their knowledge to repair the faulty rune sequence without damaging the core security system.
Spring (February - May)
Focus: Specialization Choices, High-Stakes Environment, Final Assessments.
The Divination Misalignment: The scrying mirrors in the Scrying Pool Gallery are displaying distorted, chaotic images, suggesting a profound Divination misalignment. The group must investigate the area using their knowledge of Enchantment and Abjuration to find the physical object causing the interference and safely contain it.
The Unauthorized Teleportation: A high-power Conjuration spell is detected near the Fieldwork Gear Annex—it's an unauthorized teleportation that left behind a trace of the traveler's magical signature. The group must use Divination (D-305: Remote Location) on the signature to trace where the rogue traveler went without alerting security to their own investigation.
Final Practical: The Triple Lock System: The final exam requires the group to successfully breach a simulated secure area protected by three distinct magical locks: a physical Transmutation lock, an Evocation tripwire, and an Illusion ward that confuses movement. They must solve the challenge using non-lethal, specialized counter-magic.
The Conclave's Whispers: During their final advising session with a professor in the Faculty Housing Tower, the group accidentally overhears the professor having a terse, coded conversation on a magically shielded device. They realize the professor is relaying sensitive information to the Crimson Judicators about a new threat, revealing the depth of the Conclave's surveillance.
