Year 3 Adventures
This is just a short list of potential adventures or mini-quests the player might encounter. Some or none of these could happen- this is just a list of interesting suggestions and ideas.
Fall (August - October)
Focus: Deep Dive into Majors, High-Stakes Practicality, Artifact Use.
The Rune-Locked Artifact: Archon Thorne assigns the group to a sensitive research project: deciphering a complex, multi-layered Enchantment rune on an ancient, inert artifact stored in the Conclave Security Vault. This requires advanced Divination techniques to map the runes' function and specialized knowledge from their Major (e.g., if their Major is Transmutation, they study its material; if Evocation, its potential energy source).
The Phantasmal Sabotage: A rival specialization group (e.g., Evocation Majors) is being targeted by precise, sustained Illusion magic that interferes with their Mana reserves. The group is tasked with using their specialized knowledge (e.g., Abjuration Wards or Conjuration Scrying anchors) to locate the hidden caster and neutralize the mental strain non-lethally.
Containment of a Wild Elemental: During field study near the Lecture Hall of Elements, a high-power Evocation experiment goes unstable, summoning a lesser, chaotic Elemental. The group, now expected to handle intermediate threats, must coordinate their Major spells (e.g., Transmutation to create a containment shell, Conjuration to banish it, or Abjuration to weaken it) to secure the area.
The Ley Line Runner's Call: The group receives a coded plea from a desperate Free Artisan contact: they need a distraction created at the Obsidian Gate. The group must use a combination of Illusion (to create a distraction) and their Major field (e.g., an Enchantment distraction rune or a Conjuration decoy) to help the agent smuggle a package out of the Academy.
Ethical Transmutation Dilemma: In a practical session in the Transmutation Lab, the group accidentally creates a minor material with the potential for highly unethical use (e.g., metal that causes instant, minor paralysis). They must debate and decide whether to report the discovery to Master Bellwether (risking its suppression) or secretly record the formula (risking its misuse).
Winter (November - January)
Focus: Synthesizing Major/Minor, Research Pressure, Midterms.
Midterm Practical: Multi-Discipline Security: The Midterm requires the group to defend a small, simulated research lab. They must create a layered defense using their Major and Minor schools, such as a Transmutation trap floor, an Abjuration shield generator, and a Divination tripwire that alerts them to intruders.
The Scrying Pool Theft: A rival faction member manages to steal a critical scrying orb from the Scrying Pool Gallery. The group must use their Divination knowledge (or their Minor in Divination) to trace the orb's unique magical signature to the student's hidden research nook in the East Wing Dormitories.
The Accidental Summoning: A Conjuration Major accidentally leaves an unstable binding circle open in the Planar Anchor Chamber. The group discovers that the residual energy is causing minor, chaotic summoning effects across the Grand Refectory (e.g., momentary rain indoors, brief flashes of strange creatures). They must use their Major (especially Abjuration or Conjuration) to safely close the binding circle.
Winter Holiday: The Permanent Disguise: A powerful Illusion Major attempts to skip the holiday semester by crafting a permanent disguise (using their Enchantment Minor) to trick the faculty. The group is tasked with breaking the highly stable, multi-layered illusion to reveal the truant student before they can leave the Academy grounds.
The Sub-Library Code Breaker: Professor Grandmother Maeve needs a rare text from the Sub-Library Archives, which is protected by a multi-layered code of Abjuration and Enchantment. The group must use advanced Divination and their Major focus (e.g., Evocation to test resistance, Transmutation to test material) to safely bypass the wards and retrieve the book.
Spring (February - May)
Focus: Advanced Projects, Faction Tensions, Final Assessments.
The Crimson Judicator's Test: Archon Thorne, acting as a Judicator Commander, secretly tasks the group with a field test: using their advanced Evocation or Abjuration spells to test the structural integrity of a newly Enchanted perimeter wall on the main campus, pushing them toward high-power spellcasting.
The Runecraft Workshop Sabotage: The Runecraft Workshop is the target of vandalism. Someone has been subtly altering the tools, causing Enchantment runes to degrade during the crafting process. The group must use a deep Divination study (or Abjuration analysis) of the tools to track the magical signature of the vandal and stop the sabotage.
Final Practical: The Specialized Defense: The final examination is a practical defense scenario where the group must defend a single, specific magical asset. They must rely almost entirely on their chosen Major school to succeed (e.g., Abjuration Majors must withstand a sustained Evocation attack; Transmutation Majors must instantly create and dismantle defensive terrain).
The Conclave's Classified File: While retrieving their final materials from their advisor's office (a professor who is a Judicator), the group accidentally opens a magically concealed file detailing the Conclave's current, sensitive research into Thanaturgy. The adventure is scrambling to reseal the file and decide whether to keep the knowledge or report the terrifying truth.
