Year 4 Adventures

This is just a short list of potential adventures or mini-quests the player might encounter. Some or none of these could happen- this is just a list of interesting suggestions and ideas.

Fall (August - October)

Focus: Apprenticeship Tasks, External Politics, Complex Wards.

  1. The Fading Structural Enchantment: The Headmaster assigns the group to assist Professor Gilda Ironheart (Enchantment) in diagnosing a problem with the Void-Mana Suppression Field Core (Location 27). The core's Structural Imbuement is mysteriously degrading, and the group must use advanced Divination to find the source of the subtle, corrosive magic that is leaching the energy.

  2. The Free Artisans' Data Extraction: The group's specialized skills (e.g., advanced Illusion or focused Transmutation) are secretly contracted by the Free Artisans to infiltrate the Faculty Housing Tower. Their goal is to retrieve a crucial scroll of proprietary Conjuration spell sequences before the Conclave catalogs it.

  3. The Automated Security Breach: An automated security system near the Conclave Security Vault is malfunctioning, causing its Abjuration wards to randomly activate and threaten staff. The group must use their Major (e.g., Evocation to overload a circuit, Enchantment to momentarily rewrite a rune) to safely disable the entire automated sequence.

  4. The Illusion of Peace: A high-level Illusion Major, tasked with providing diplomatic cover for the Conclave, has gone rogue and is using their power to maintain a false "peace" in a local settlement. The Year 4 group is dispatched to use specialized Divination or powerful Abjuration techniques to pierce the sustained, area-wide mental manipulation.

  5. The Golem Sentience Crisis: Master Dr. Alistair Bellwether (Transmutation) discovers that one of his experimental constructs is exhibiting true sentience. The group must use a combination of their Major (Transmutation for analysis or Abjuration for containment) to handle the ethical dilemma: release the sentient golem or safely decommission it before the Conclave discovers the breach.

Winter (November - January)

Focus: Specialized Conflict, Morality, Midterm Projects.

  1. Midterm Practical: The Perfect Counter: The Midterm requires a personalized defense. Each student is pitted against a magically generated scenario designed to exploit the weakness of their Major school. (e.g., an Evocation Major must survive a perfectly mirrored Evocation attack; an Abjuration Major must devise a ward against a self-corrupting Transmutation spell).

  2. The Shadow Market Undercover: Archon Thorne tasks the group (using their advanced Illusion or Transmutation skills for disguise) to infiltrate the hidden Shadow Market Entrance (Location 28). They must locate and identify a specific dealer of highly restricted Conjuration components without blowing their cover.

  3. The Conjured Weapon Hunt: A powerful, temporary Conjured weapon was accidentally left behind by a Conclave agent after a classified operation. The group must use Divination and complex Conjuration tracing to find the precise location of the self-destructing weapon before it reverts back to raw mana, causing a catastrophic localized explosion.

  4. Winter Holiday: The Portal Stabilization Mission: Due to extreme winter conditions, a major long-distance Conjuration portal used for Conclave logistics begins to destabilize. The group is immediately assigned to the Planar Anchor Chamber to use advanced Enchantment and Abjuration principles to stabilize the large-scale portal before it ruptures.

  5. The Ritual Site Analysis: The Crimson Judicators have located a suspected abandoned ritual site used by an agent of the Cult of the Void-Born (though this is kept highly secret). The group is assigned to analyze the site using their Major (e.g., Divination for residual spell tracking, Evocation to test energy levels) to determine the ritual's purpose, without being told the horrifying nature of the magic involved.

Spring (February - May)

Focus: Vocation, Thesis Preparation, High-Level Security.

  1. The Crimson Judicators' Recruitment Drive: Archon Thorne formally uses his position as Headmaster to offer the most promising students (especially those in Abjuration, Evocation, or Divination) highly selective, mandatory internships with the Judicators. The adventure is the stress of the secret interviews and the moral implications of working for the secretive enforcement arm.

  2. The Sub-Library Code Update: The group is tasked with updating the highly complex Abjuration and Enchantment wards on the Sub-Library Archives. This requires meticulous coordination, as a single error could trigger a full magical lockdown or permanently destroy the volatile contents.

  3. Final Practical: The Thesis Prelude: The Final Practical is designed to be the foundational test for the Master's Thesis Project. The group is given a complex, unsolved magical problem (e.g., Transmuting a material that naturally resists magic, or perfecting a sustained, undetectable Illusion) and must present a comprehensive magical blueprint for the solution using their Major specialization.

  4. The Headmaster’s Crisis: While preparing their final presentations near Archon Thorne's office in The Pinnacle, the group witnesses the Headmaster in a moment of extreme stress. His formidable Divination powers reveal an imminent threat—a major attack by some Free Artisans or a deep penetration by a Thanaturgist. He tasks the group with a non-magical, yet critical, information relay outside the Academy walls, testing their trust and loyalty.
