Year 5 Adventures

This is just a short list of potential adventures or mini-quests the player might encounter. Some or none of these could happen- this is just a list of interesting suggestions and ideas.

Fall (August - October)

Focus: Thesis Initiation, High-Level Security, Faction Intervention.

  1. The Binding Seal Fluctuation (Major Crisis): The Void-Mana Suppression Field Core registers an unnerving power fluctuation. The Headmaster tasks the group with a dangerous, sustained Abjuration and Enchantment ritual in the Ley Line Nexus Chamber to temporarily reinforce the Binding Seal while the faculty attempts repairs, putting the students in direct contact with the world's most dangerous secret.

  2. The Free Artisans' Public Protest: Some Free Artisans of the Ley Lines stage a coordinated, highly visible protest utilizing mass Illusion and Evocation in the skies above the Academy Grounds. The group is assigned to a counter-spell team, tasked with using their specialized offensive and defensive magic to non-lethally disperse the sophisticated, media-driven demonstration.

  3. The Necrotic Signature: A specialized Divination team, assisted by the students, detects a weak but undeniable trace of Thanaturgy (The Void-Born) in the Maintenance Tunnels—a sign of infiltration. The group must conduct a high-risk sweep, using their Major (e.g., Evocation for area denial, Transmutation to detect biological residue) to find and contain the source without alerting the main student body.

  4. The Portal Containment Breach: A powerful Conjuration specialist fails a long-distance portal opening, leaving a hostile, volatile rift open near the Planar Anchor Chamber. The group must stabilize the dimensional tear using advanced Conjuration geometry and Abjuration shielding before the rift tears through the academy's defenses.

Winter (November - January)

Focus: Thesis Refinement, High-Value Targets, Moral Choice.

  1. Midterm Project: The Grand Forgery: The Midterm is a real-world simulation: the group must create a perfect magical forgery of a highly protected document (The Grand Charter) stored in the Conclave Security Vault. This requires advanced Illusion and Enchantment for replication, and meticulous Divination to fool security seals.

  2. Tracking the Artifact Smuggler: The Crimson Judicators identify a major Free Artisan smuggler operating through the Shadow Market Entrance. The group is secretly deployed to track the smuggler's magical signature using advanced Divination and then use Transmutation or Conjuration to discreetly disable their escape route without injury.

  3. The Ethics of Control (Mandatory Seminar): A visiting Conclave lecturer presents a case study involving the morally ambiguous use of Illusion or Transmutation (e.g., forced healing or mass suggestion). The students must use their specialized knowledge to argue the case, directly addressing where the Conclave's laws should draw the line.

  4. Winter Holiday: The Judicator’s Request: Archon Thorne, acting as commander, gives the group a high-value personal task: retrieve a captured, powerful Enchanted item from a covert Judicator holding facility near the Sunken Crypts. This task exposes them to the Judicators' secretive methods and potential brutality.

Spring (February - May)

Focus: Thesis Completion, Existential Threats, Graduation.

  1. The Final Thesis Challenge: The last major academic task is the completion and successful implementation of their Thesis Project. This is an independent, highly specialized challenge (e.g., designing an artifact capable of sustained inter-planar communication, or developing a new category-defying Evocation spell). The adventure is the desperate, all-consuming work to finish the project before the May deadline.

  2. Infiltration of the Pinnacle: The group discovers definitive proof that a highly ranked professor (one of the NPCs listed earlier) is a deep-cover agent of the Cult of the Void-Born. They must use their combined mastery to secretly infiltrate Archon Thorne's Office (The Pinnacle) and deliver the evidence to him without the corrupted professor detecting their complex Abjuration and Illusion efforts.

  3. The Grand Evacuation Plan: Due to an unprecedented spike in Ley Line chaos, the Conclave orders a partial, immediate evacuation of the Academy. The Year 5 students, as the most powerful casters, are tasked with securing the civilian routes using advanced Abjuration wards and managing Conjuration portals for mass movement, dealing with the inevitable panic.

  4. Graduation: The Price of Mastery: The final "adventure" is the Graduation Ceremony itself. As the students receive the title of Master Arcanist, Archon Thorne, in his speech, makes a veiled but pointed reference to the ongoing war against the Forbidden Magic and the immense burden of secrecy they must now carry, reminding them that their graduation marks their true conscription into the defense of Aerthos.
