Page 2- Savior of Kael-Suun

Before the rumblings in the tavern called him back to the south, the man who would become Thorin Blackwood earned his new soul through service. Kael-Suun was not just a hiding place; it was a kingdom struggling against the brutal elements and a primordial terror. In his decade of exile, the man once defined by what he destroyed became the legendary protector who slew the nightmare of the north.

The Scourge of the Frost-Veins: Skarvath the Eternal

For centuries, Kael-Suun lived in the shadow of Skarvath, a legendary frost-drake whose scales were as hard as mountain iron and whose breath could turn a man to a pillar of ice in a heartbeat. The dragon didn't just hunt for food; it hunted to maintain a reign of fear, demanding "Offerings of Steel"—the village's precious tools and weapons—to add to its hoard.

  • The Guardian’s Choice: In his fourth year of exile, after Skarvath razed the village’s primary storehouse, Thorin realized the "New Leaf" didn't mean pacifism—it meant protecting life at any cost. He refused to let the village sacrifice their children to the beast.

  • The Slaying: Thorin did not use an army. He utilized the "Ghost-Walk" one last time, scaling the sheer, frozen cliffs of the dragon’s lair in the dead of night. He didn't fight with brute strength; he used his knowledge of anatomy and mechanics. He waited for the beast to roar and drove a spear of tempered cold-iron through the soft palate of its mouth, piercing the brain.

  • The Trophy of Peace: When the sun rose, the white-haired man returned to the village dragging a single, massive frost-scale. The terror that had loomed over Kael-Suun for generations was dead.

The Great Thaw (The Engineering of Life)

With the dragon gone, Thorin turned his focus to the village's survival. He used his mechanical expertise to ensure Kael-Suun would never thirst again.

  • The Thermal Siphons: He designed a system of brass pipes and vents that captured the heat from deep volcanic veins, channeling it into the village’s wells. This prevented the "Blue Freeze" from ever cutting off their water supply again.

  • The Architecture of Hope: He helped rebuild the homes destroyed by Skarvath, introducing reinforced supports that could withstand the heaviest snow-ins. He wasn't just a soldier; he was the village's architect.

The Naming of the Hero

By the seventh year, the village elders officially named him the Saviour of Kael-Suun. To them, he was a pillar of the community, a man who had traded the pikes of an assassin for the hammer of a builder.

  • The "Thorin" Legacy: They gave him the name Thorin, meaning "The Hearth-Stone." He was the warmth at the center of their world.

  • A Kingdom Restored: Under his guidance, Kael-Suun transformed into a thriving, independent kingdom. He taught them that strength was found in unity, not in fear—a lesson he had learned the hard way in Kingston.

The Burden of the Savior

The people of Kael-Suun loved Thorin. They saw a kind, white-haired man who saved them from a dragon and the cold. They never knew the man he used to be.

When the news of the Silent Hand reached him in the tavern, the tragedy was absolute: Thorin realized that the peace he had won for Kael-Suun was a luxury the rest of the world no longer had. To remain in his paradise while others were sold into chains would be his final failure. He had to leave the kingdom he saved to face the one he had nearly destroyed.
