Page 2: The Execution of Innocence

The year @Vesper Nyx turned twelve was the year the world’s cruelty found a name: Arundel. While the border skirmishes had been a matter of territory and scrap, King Arundel turned the war into a display of psychological horror. He didn't just want to conquer the "New Roots"; he wanted to break the spirit of anyone who dared to live outside his crown's shadow.

The Capture at the Fissure

@Vesper Nyx serving as a scout for the orphan-vanguard, had led his small group of "family"—his younger brother and two close friends—into a tactical retreat near the jagged cliffs of the Great Fissure. They were supposed to be invisible, ghosts in the machine-waste. But Arundel’s "Hound-Seekers" were relentless.

Caught in a pincer maneuver, the four children were captured. They weren't taken as prisoners of war; they were taken as "examples."

The Arundel "Mercy"

King Arundel himself arrived at the forward camp to oversee the interrogation. He didn't see a twelve-year-old soldier in @Vesper Nyx ; he saw a way to send a message to the Kingston resistance.

  • The Forced Witness: @Vesper Nyx was pinned down, his eyes forced open by the King’s guard. He was made to watch as Arundel personally dictated the "cleansing" of the border-rats.

  • The Death of the Bloodline: One by one, the friends of @Vesper Nyx were executed. Finally, his younger brother—the last person he had ever promised to protect—was killed before him. Arundel didn't use a quick blade; he used a slow, ceremonial "justice" that ensured every second of the boy's fear was seared into the mind of @Vesper Nyx .

The Resulting Void

Arundel left @Vesper Nyx alive. It wasn't an act of kindness; it was a calculated release. He wanted the boy to return to the Kingston ranks as a walking monument to Arundel’s power—a broken child who would spread the infection of terror.

Arundel underestimated him. The twelve-year-old who walked away from that camp didn't bring back terror. He brought back The Void. The grief was so absolute that it burned away the last remnants of childhood empathy, leaving only the "Darker Side" in its place.

The Birth of the Vendetta

From that day forward, @Vesper Nyx no longer fought for Kingston, and he no longer fought for the Royal Mint. He fought for the eventual day he would see Arundel’s kingdom fall. He had become a master of the "Ghost-Walk" not for survival, but for the hunt. The "Execution of Innocence" was the final lesson: in a world of Blood and Iron, the only thing that matters is the blade you don't see coming.
