Frigates are warships often used to support larger classes of capital ships. These ships are fielded by both the Martian Congressional Republic Navy (MCRN) and the United Nations Navy (UNN).
The MCRN Corvette-class light frigate is a class operated by the Martian Congressional Republic Navy (MCRN). The most widely known ship of this class was originally called the MCRN Tachi and was carried in the main hangar bay of the MCRN Donnager. Later, after surviving the attack on the Donnager, this same ship was renamed Rocinante by her new captain, James Holden.
This class has multiple roles, including existing as a light-missile platform, missile defense, customs enforcement, law enforcement, reconnaissance, surveillance. This ship-class is amongst the smallest naval ships of the MCRN, second only to the Morgaina-class patrol destroyer.
Despite its smaller size, the Corvette-class is not to be taken lightly. Class has an exeedingly high concentration of PDCs (Point Defense Cannons). However, because of its high concentration of PDCs it does in turn make it carry fewer torpedoes (20) sacrificing offensive for more defensive capabilities. Nevertheless it does make it a highly-capable combat vessel when engaged in C.Q.B. (Close Quarters Battle). Ships of this class can pose a threats to the largest of ships, as they build strength in numbers of their own, or alongside Morgaina-class patrol destroyers.

The Corvette-class was in service with the MCRN during the UN-MCR Cold War and during Operation Silent Wall. Operation Silent Wall was a pirate suppression campaign conducted by the MCRN, against piracy in opposition of Mars. The commanding warship of the campaign was the flagship of the MCRN Jupiter fleet, the feared and renowned, Donnager-class battleship, the MCRN Donnager. The Corvette-class Light Frigate was often docked onboard Donnager-class battleships and during Operation Silent Wall two ships of the class were removed from the Donnager so as to fit four Morrigan-class patrol destroyers in their place. During Operation Silent Wall, 2 Corvette-class light frigates participated in the campaign against piracy, the MCRN McCabe, & MCRN Valenza.
When the MCRN Donnager was attacked by Amun-Ra stealth ships, the crew evacuated the survivors of the Canterbury (James Holden, Naomi Nagata, Alex Kamal, and Amos Burton) to the docked Corvette-class, the MCRN Tachi. None of the Donnager's crew survived so the civilian survivors claimed legitimate salvage and renamed the ship to the Rocinante. The Rocinante was heavily involved with numerous events across the Sol System, all in an effort to bring justice to the victims of Mao-Kwikowski Mercantile, Protogen, and the Eros Incident.
MCRN Corvette: The class leader of the Corvette-class and first to be constructed and deployed. Operates in the Home Fleet
MCRN Tachi: Believed to be destroyed, but actually came under the control of the Canterbury crew survivors and recommissioned as Rocinante by the new crew themselves. The Rocinante now operates as an independent ship.MC
MCRN McCabe: Assigned to anti-piracy movements and Jupiter Fleet.
MCRN Velenza: Assigned to anti-piracy movements and Jupiter Fleet.
MCRN Karakum: Assigned to Home Fleet. Capable of doing Black Ops.
The UNN Istanbul-class Frigate is a class of frigate operated by the United Nations Navy (UNN). The Istanbul-class frigates are fielded in endless variety; patrol, escort, and anti-piracy to logistics support, customs enforcement, and long-range surveillance. Their size, modularity, and low operating cost make them suitable for military usage against Martian aggression and violent Belter piracy. It is equipped with a large Epstein Drive with three smaller drives providing speed and maneuverability, 12 missile tubes, and 5 PDCs that give it full coverage.
When 2345 the Europa Uprising occurred, several UNN ships including one frigate of this class were stolen. After capturing this ship, its new owner Tousaint Zapata renamed it Europa's Bane and used the ship for piracy. In 2347 this ship ambushed the UNN Urshanabi destroying the battleship, boarding its wreckage and executing the survivors. The Europa's Bane then waited in ambush for any scavengers to this wreckage. After the Artemis scavenged the wreck the frigate gave chase engaging Artemis. During this the Europa's Bane was damaged by PDC fire to its drive.
The UNN Phantom-class Escort Frigate is a light warship in use by the United Nations Navy (UNN).
Escort ships are often an underrated asset. Allocating the budget to manufacture a ship specifically to escort others is usually not deemed worthwhile given that high-value personnel and equipment can travel in larger vessels. The number of already-existing vessels of the older UNN Phantom-class made them perfect candidates for refit as dedicated escort ships rather than being retired and scrapped. Older models can still be found bringing up the rear of some UNN fleets, and by the time of the Eros incident, most of these ships had been retired.
Despite its size , Phantom-class frigates are large enough force to be reckoned with that they are still used to escort and sent out to recon certain areas. While software on the Phantom-class frigates are upgraded and updated as often as possible, the hardware has significantly fallen behind in the last several decades. Although they were intimidating back in their day, they now are lumber, and stutter when faced with modern foes, clearly outclassed. However, these ships provide non-armed research and science vessels an escort powerful enough to provide defense without making new ships just for this purpose. This means that all the remaining Phantom-class ships are assigned to the Outer Planets and the Belt while other more aggressive and modern ships are kept toward the Inner Planets to standoff against the Martian Congressional Republic Navy (MCRN). Back in its prime, the standard complement of these escort vessels was 20 crew—but due to their age, this has increased to 24 to account for the additional needed systems and repairs.
Phantom-class Frigates are equipped with 2 PDCs and 2 torpedo tubes, with a length of 48 meters, with 10 decks, with a single large Epstein Drive,. The Phantom's age has allowed it to be adapted and modified into a wide number of roles. If given an advanced sensor suite, they can be adapted to serve as military-grade scout ships or planetary survey vessels, the latter particularly if fitted with a vehicle and/or drone bay.
