backstory

Cantrelle Mirthwine was once a darling of the Cormyrean stage, performing to packed amphitheaters in Arabel and Suzail—until a public quarrel with a duke’s heir over a love affair landed her squarely in legal trouble. Forced to argue her case in court, she didn’t just defend herself—she performed her defense in such devastatingly clever verse that the case was not only dismissed but immortalized in ballads. The scandal ended her theatrical career but birthed a new one: the Bardic Bar. She became the first “bard-at-law” of The Bellowsong Court and helped shape its theatrical legal code from the inside out. Now, Canny is both celebrity and advocate, adored by the people and begrudgingly respected by Suzail’s elite. She takes only the most curious cases—disputed pet inheritances, dueling insult poems, cursed heirlooms—and turns each one into an unforgettable show. She claims she’s never lost a case, though technically, some rulings are still being sung about in appeals.
