OUTPOST SCRAPHAVEN

OUTPOST SCRAPHAVEN

“Where broken machines get patched, and broken people get a place to sit.”

I. Overview

Outpost Scraphaven is a neutral, makeshift settlement perched on the southwestern edge of the Broken Belt Front — the largest mech conflict zone on Credence. Built from repurposed mining structures, abandoned cargo frames, and retrofitted shipping containers, it serves as the last safe refuge before entering the war-scarred wastes.

Pilots know it as a place where:

  • mechs can be repaired,

  • pilots can recover,

  • contracts can be found,

  • and the war doesn’t reach unless you want it to.

Scraphaven is not a town—it’s a lifeline.

II. Origin

Scraphaven began as an unremarkable salvage post run by a handful of Dustgate mechanics who scavenged old mining rigs. But when Constellation forces pushed into the region, and Freecrew settlers dug in, the trickle of wandering pilots turned into a flood.

The mechanics adapted.
The salvagers expanded.
More containers arrived, stacked, welded, repurposed.

By necessity, Scraphaven became:

  • a refugee point,

  • a trade enclave,

  • a neutral meeting ground, and

  • a rest stop for any pilot crossing the Front.

To this day, no faction officially claims Scraphaven; none dare to.
Any side that attacks it risks turning every pilot in the region against them.

III. Layout and Atmosphere

Scraphaven resembles an industrial scrapyard fused with a desert truck stop:

  • towering piles of mech limbs and armor plating

  • cranes lifting shattered frames like wounded beasts

  • flickering neon signs advertising “REPAIR”, “FUEL”, and “FOOD”

  • makeshift walkways built from old treads and tank plates

  • floodlights casting long shadows across half-built mechs

The outpost is lively, gritty, and oddly warm.
Pilots gather at fire barrels, share stories, curse their machines, and swap spare parts like currency.

Scraphaven’s noise is its heartbeat — welding arcs, grinder wheels, engines whining under test loads, and the occasional drunken argument that turns into a friendly spar.

IV. Function and Services

1. The Patchworks — Repair/Refit Hub

A sprawling open-air workshop where mechanics and Gearsmiths tune, rebuild, and jury-rig mechs back into fighting shape. Pilots bring everything from dented knee actuators to half-melted reactor housings.

2. Fuel & Coolant Depot

Essential for anyone running hot thrusters or overclocked reactors. Refrigerated tanks hum day and night.

3. Training Pit 07

A dusty arena for test-firing mech weapons or learning how to move without tipping over.

4. The Contract Wall

A constantly updated holo-board listing jobs outside the warfront and, for those who explicitly request it, inside the Broken Belt Front.

5. Overlook Bar & Rationhouse

A meeting place, peace zone, and rumor mill. Every pilot knows you don’t pick fights here unless you want fifty mechs walking over your frame outside.

V. Politics & Neutrality

Scraphaven maintains strict neutrality:

  • Constellation forces use it for “authorized rest periods.”

  • Freecrew volunteers rest and resupply here before heading back into skirmishes.

  • Cartel operatives occasionally pass through under assumed names.

  • Pilgrims wander quietly between workshops, observing Rift activity.

The unspoken rule:
nobody fires weapons inside Scraphaven.
The outpost’s survival depends on everyone respecting that rule.

Even factions that despise each other will share a drink or a hydraulic press here.

VI. The People of Scraphaven

Scraphaven isn’t run by politicians or officers — it’s run by the people who need it:

Greta “Sparks” Holvine,
Chief mechanic with a personality as abrasive as her tools.

Orren Pike,
Contract broker who helps pilots avoid (or enter) the war.

Talla Wynn,
Rookie pilot instructor with too much optimism for this dusty world.

The Scrapdogs,
A group of half-feral, half-engineered mech-beasts that patrol the perimeter.

VII. Hazards of the Haven

Scraphaven is safe—but not peaceful.

  • Stray artillery sometimes lands near the northern wall.

  • Scrap avalanches collapse piles without warning.

  • Pilots desperate for parts may try to “borrow” from unwatched mechs.

  • Rift flickers occasionally distort HUDs and tools.

The Haven stands because everyone needs it, not because it is unassailable.

VIII. Scraphaven’s Role in the War

Scraphaven is officially outside the conflict.
Unofficially, it is a pressure valve for both sides.

Pilots who need a break come here.
Pilots who want to help quietly find the war’s edge here.
And players who want nothing to do with the conflict are never forced into it.

There is no shame in staying at the Haven, taking small jobs, and ignoring the artillery thunder from the horizon.

IX. Player Note — Opt-In Mech Warfare

The Broken Belt Front begins past Scraphaven’s eastern ridge.
Crossing that line is a choice, not a requirement.

Scraphaven is where players:

  • learn the basics

  • meet mentors

  • tune their frames

  • and decide their path

Some leave as freelancers.
Some march toward the war.

And some never leave at all — because Scraphaven becomes their home.
