The Guild of the Gilded Scale is the economic lifeblood of The Keep. Operating out of the Guild House (Area 16), they manage all trade, fee collections, and administrative logistics within the fortress. While the military holds the walls, the Guild holds the ledger, ensuring that every merchant and artisan passing through the Borderlands pays their fair share for the Keep's protection.
The Guild was established shortly after the reclamation of the Keep to provide financial stability for the garrison. Recognizing that a fortress cannot survive on steel alone, they organized the southern trade routes and turned the Keep into a mandatory stop for caravans. Over time, they evolved from a simple tax-collection office into a powerful political entity that exerts significant influence over the Castellan and the local economy.
The Guild Master: A highly influential and astute administrator who resides in the Guild House. He is a normal man by trade but possesses enough political leverage to affect how fortress personnel treat outsiders.
The Clerks: Two dedicated assistants who manage the daily accounts and fee collections. They are secondary to the Master but essential for the Keep's bureaucracy.
The Guild takes its coin very seriously. Their security consists of:
Fanatical Guardsmen: Four men-at-arms (Level 1 Fighters) in leather armor and shields, armed with spears and swords. They are fanatically loyal to the Master and maintain a 24-hour watch over the Guild House.
Hidden Armory: In times of crisis, the Master and his clerks can equip themselves with chain mail, crossbows, and swords kept in a specialized closet for quick deployment.
Strategic Strongbox: The Guild Master keeps a strongbox under his bed (containing 712 gold pieces) and manages the 5% trade tax imposed on all merchandise passing through the gates.
Order of the Iron Bastion: A partnership of necessity. The Guild funds the soldiers, while the soldiers protect the Guild's profit margins. However, the Guild often views the Bastion's rigid laws as an "inconvenience" to commerce.
The Castellan: The Guild Master is one of the few individuals with enough social standing to sway the Castellan’s favor or dislike.
Travelers & Adventurers: The Guild provides hospitality (for a fee) in their dormitory but maintains a "dry" environment where drinking is frowned upon to ensure business remains the priority.
