Beneath @Grusk’sGuildAndForge runs a natural cave network that exhales sea air through the stone, feeding the forge’s great bellows. The guild calls them the Breathing Depths — half workshop, half ecosystem. The air smells of salt, metal, and faint sweetness from @LysandraKettlemire’s outer gardens above.
Explorers are warned: these caves live. Every spore, vine, and wingbeat below the forge is part of a delicate, dangerous cycle that fuels the forge’s rhythm.
Pinned beside the heavy iron door leading down is a small wooden plaque scrawled in chalk:
“Use the glow silk. No full plate — too tight. No fire. Glow torches only.”
– G.I.
A spool of Glow Silk Rope hangs from a wall hook — bioluminescent thread spun from silk larvae. Adventurers are expected to wrap it around wrists or weapons for soft light. Proper Glow Torches are issued to initiates, made from woven glow silk and crushed Ambercap resin, casting a steady 20 ft radius of dim light safe from flammable spores.
Airflow: The sea’s tide controls the wind within the caverns; at high tide, cool mist rushes through, clearing spores.
Sound: A deep hum resonates when the forge’s bellows sync with the tidal breath.
Hazards: Fire is strictly forbidden — most flora release flammable gases or spores.
Visibility: Total darkness punctuated by glowing vines, larval threads, and faint phosphorescence.
🟢 Wanderer’s Mold
Covers low stone; contact releases flammable spores. Used to ignite forge vents.
Hazard: Explosive on spark or torchlight.
Harvest: Explosive spore sacs for mining charges or trap kits.
🕸️ Silk Larva
Cocooning ceiling creatures that spin glow silk used in guild torches.
Harvest: Glow Silk (rope, thread, light mesh).
Warning: Aggressive Lunamoth swarms protect nests.
🌙 Moon Vine
Silver luminescent vine winding through the main passage. Produces Moon Honey, refined into healing draughts. Dried, it becomes Flashpowder.
Harvest: Honey or dried vine powder.
Threat: Draws moths and marrow flies.
🦋 Marrow Moth
Feeds on sweat and forge heat; sheds dust that induces sleep.
Harvest: Sleep Dust (tranquilizer).
Note: Dust is reactive with Wanderer’s Mold—causes instant flash combustion.
💫 Lunamoth Swarm
Swarms shimmer like molten silver, releasing hallucinogenic spores.
Harvest: Vision Spores for dream elixirs or prophetic incense.
Risk: Disorientation or false vision if inhaled.
🍯 Ambercap
Amber-colored jelly fungus near warm vents. Hardens when exposed to air, trapping spores and insects inside.
Harvest: Amber Resin (lamp cores, alchemical seals).
Use: Primary fuel for glow torches.
🌺 Venompetal Bloom (Deep Node)
Grows near the lowest vent where forge heat meets tidal mist. Towering, serpentine stalks with paralyzing pollen clouds. Its roots feed on venom runoff and dead intruders.
CR: 5
Harvest: Paralytic Pollen, Petal Toxin, Stem Resin.
Policy: @LysandraKettlemire forbids burning or cutting. Harvest only under supervision.
Tier: Level 1–4 starter zone.
Primary Goal: Secure forge ventilation tunnels and collect reagents for Lysandra and @MarnieCopperpot.
Secondary Goals:
Repair broken air flues.
Collect larva silk for guild supply.
Document new fungal species.
Optional Boss Encounter: Disturbed Venompetal Bloom awakening due to overharvesting.
