The @GlasswrightCircle is a guild of artisans, alchemists, and enchanters who craft lenses, prisms, and containers capable of bending light, preserving spells, and capturing essence. Their work bridges art and science, beauty and surveillance. Every noble in @DaggerfallCity owns at least one of their mirrors, and every mage has used their tools, though few understand what the Circle sees in return. They claim to “shape light to reveal truth,” but more often they use it to conceal their own.
The Circle began as a minor craft union in Daggerfall’s old artisan quarter. When a team of glaziers accidentally trapped a spell’s afterimage inside molten quartz, they discovered that glass could store arcane energy. Over generations, the guild evolved from merchants to innovators, producing “seeing crystals” and light-reactive potions that changed the course of magical research. Today, the Circle operates as both manufacturer and secret archive, recording every spell refracted through its works.
The guild is governed by a council of five Glasswright Masters, each specializing in a different branch of the craft:
Master Liora Venn: Optics and vision enchantments.
Master Durek Haln: Chemical refinement of molten crystal.
Master Isola Quent: Design and trade with the @VerdantBloom.
Master Corin Vess: Security and secret contracts for the @BastionCouncil.
Master Elra Saan: Liaison to the @OrderOfTheDeepEcho, responsible for resonance lenses and tonal capture devices.
Apprentices live and work within the guild’s central facility, the Luminous Hall, where heat haze and spelllight blur the air at all hours.
The Circle’s products include:
Prismatic Lenses: Magnify or split arcane light into separate schools of magic.
Capture Vials: Sealed flasks that trap minor spirits or volatile essences for study.
Memory Mirrors: Reflect recorded moments through alchemical silver.
Refractor Crystals: Used by the @OrderOfTheDeepEcho to isolate harmonics and by the @ArcaneRegistry for scrying wards.
The Circle’s most dangerous secret, however, is The Glass Archive—a subterranean hall of suspended panes, each containing the captured reflection of a spell cast somewhere in the world. Only the Masters know how to navigate its endless mirrored corridors.
Allies: The @OrderOfTheDeepEcho for their resonance work; the @ArcaneRegistry for sanctioned enchantment contracts.
Tensions: The @VerdantBloom, whose chemical volatility threatens the purity of their glass; the @CrowbellMessengers, who accuse them of eavesdropping through enchanted optics.
Quiet Clients: The @BastionCouncil commissions surveillance lenses and warded windows for their council chambers, ensuring beauty hides authority.
To the public, the @GlasswrightCircle represents refinement and progress. To mages, they are indispensable. To spies, they are dangerous. The saying “Walls have glass ears” originated in Daggerfall after a noble’s affair was exposed by a window that recorded its reflection. Many craftsmen pray to the Circle’s nameless patron—an artisan said to have shaped the first sunrise—before pouring molten sand, fearing that even light remembers.
The @GlasswrightCircle embodies Daggerfall’s obsession with control through creation. Their inventions illuminate the unknown but also make surveillance possible. To study light is to command what others see—and in the @DaggerfallFrontier, perception is power.
