@LucenThayne
Overview
Long before the rise of @DaggerfallCity, before the founding of the @DawnbreakPact, and centuries before the @BloodMoonShade united blood and moon beneath a single banner, there was Lucen Thayne.
Known among elder lycans as the First Fang, the Old Moon, and the Silver Father, Lucen is one of the oldest living beings in the known world and the oldest surviving lycan. For countless generations he stood as the undisputed alpha of the great packs, maintaining ancient traditions that predate kingdoms, guilds, and written history. To many lycans he remains the embodiment of the old ways: predator and protector, hunter and judge, a creature bound not by laws written on parchment but by laws written in blood.
Though he serves beneath @GrimjowVarn and the @BloodMoonShade, Lucen has never embraced the order they created. He views the Varn brothers as unnatural forces that altered the course of the world, and he quietly waits to see whether their legacy will ultimately save the frontier or destroy it.
History
Lucen's origins have long since passed into myth. Some claim he was born beneath a blood-red moon before the first cities were built. Others insist he was once a mortal hunter who survived a curse that consumed entire tribes. Lucen himself offers no answers.
What is known is that he survived.
He witnessed the rise and fall of kingdoms now forgotten. He watched forests become farmland and farmland return to wilderness. He saw elder alphas challenge one another and die until eventually none remained above him.
For centuries Lucen ruled the ancient packs through strength, wisdom, and ruthless practicality. His authority was accepted because it never needed to be enforced. The strongest followed him because he was stronger. The wisest followed him because he endured.
That era ended with the rise of @SelrikVarn and @GrimjowVarn.
The brothers reshaped the lycan world in ways Lucen never believed possible. Their union with vampire blood, their connection to the @Umberwood, and the creation of the Blood Moon Shade transformed ancient traditions into something entirely new.
Lucen opposed their vision.
He still does.
Yet when Grimjow challenged him, Lucen lost.
The old laws demanded acceptance.
Lucen honored them.
Nature and Philosophy
Lucen believes the world functions through balance, instinct, and consequence.
Predators hunt.
Prey flees.
The strong survive.
The weak adapt or perish.
To Lucen, death is not evil and life is not sacred. Both are necessary.
What troubles him is not darkness.
It is disruption.
He does not oppose the Umberwood because it is dangerous.
He opposes it because it grows beyond its place.
He does not distrust Selrik because he is cruel.
He distrusts him because he is dead and yet remains.
He does not resent Grimjow because he lost.
He resents what Grimjow became.
Lucen sees the Blood Moon Shade not as a natural evolution but as a deviation from an older order that survived for ages before the brothers arrived.
Relations
@GrimjowVarn
Lucen acknowledges Grimjow's strength and legitimacy. He obeys because the challenge was won and the old laws were honored.
Yet he believes Grimjow chose the wrong path.
To Lucen, Grimjow could have become the greatest alpha in history. Instead, he bound himself to forces beyond the moon and the hunt.
@SelrikVarn
Lucen's relationship with Selrik is colder.
He sees Selrik as a creature that should not exist: intelligent, disciplined, powerful, and fundamentally removed from the natural cycle.
Though they rarely openly clash, neither truly trusts the other.
@BloodMoonShade
Lucen serves the Shade because reality demands it.
He does not worship it.
He does not celebrate it.
He endures it.
Many elder lycans remain loyal to the Shade only because Lucen has not abandoned it.
@DawnbreakPact
Lucen views the Dawnbreak with the same skepticism he reserves for the Shade.
Where the Blood Moon seeks to spread night endlessly, the Dawnbreak seeks to burn everything it fears.
To Lucen, both extremes threaten the balance of the world.
The Old Moon Circle
Lucen commands a faction of elder lycans known as the Old Moon Circle.
These ancient packs preserve traditions older than the Blood Moon Shade itself. Though they fight beneath the same banner, many quietly share Lucen's belief that the world has drifted far from its proper course.
The Varn Bloodline
Few know this, but Lucen has taken an interest in @RileyVarn and @MorsenVarn.
Unlike most descendants of the Varn line, the cousins stand outside the conflicts that shaped their ancestors. Lucen watches them carefully, uncertain whether they represent a continuation of the Varn legacy or a chance to correct it.
Unlike others who seek to recruit or destroy them, Lucen simply observes.
For now.
Reputation
Among younger lycans, Lucen is a legend.
Among elder lycans, he is history made flesh.
Many have never heard him raise his voice.
Few have ever seen him panic.
Those who meet him often leave unsettled by his presence. Lucen does not feel old in the way mortals understand age. He feels permanent, like a mountain or a coastline.
The world changes around him.
Lucen remains.
Role in the Long Night
As the Long Night approaches, Lucen serves as a living reminder that the conflict between light and darkness is not the first crisis the world has endured.
He has seen ages rise and fall.
He has buried enemies, allies, kings, monsters, and friends.
Whether the Varn brothers succeed or fail, Lucen believes the world will continue.
The question that concerns him is not whether the world survives.
It is what kind of world survives afterward.
Quote
"The moon does not care who deserves to lead. The forest does not care who is right. They remember only what remains when the fighting ends."
